I don’t have ten recommends for 2024 (yet) but there’s definitely an under-appreciated fic for the Game of Thrones fans to check out: BigDogLover started posting wonderful stories featuring Sandor Clegane and Arya Stark (another underappreciated ship) but has since expanded into an entire series that covers events in Westeros post season 8. The writing is amazing, the plots are terrific, and best of all, several scenes are told from the POV of the large brown dog who follows Sandor and Arya on their adventures. Big dog lovers (of both Sandor and the four-legged variety) won’t want to miss this one!

I've been doing a fair bit of reading recently and here are some stories in particular I've really enjoyed, This is my first time writing out recs or anything like that so bear with me!
Driving with the Devil by objectlesson
I recommend and love every single Cars fanfic by ObjectLesson but this one stands out and is the most popular for good reason. The way that Phoenix writes the internal thoughts of McQueen and the rawness of Doc and McQueen's interactions make this an absolute must-read. It is a great introduction to reading Cars fanfics in general for those who may be like "wait people write unironic Cars fanfics?". Once you read this fic, I especially recommend "I Only Bought This Dress (so you could take it off)" for amazing lesbian Doclight.
In Low Waters (Series) by MasterEyebrow
This series is a merman AU between ships I've never read before (Valtteri/Nico and Daniel/Jean-Éric) and I instantly fell in love with the way their communication and relationship is written and developed despite the clear difference and power imbalance/dynamics between them (for both ships). By far the best mermaid-centric stories I have read and I can't wait for more in "where the tide takes us".
Unattainable by IncurableNecromantic
This story is Wile E. Coyote / Road Runner humanized and it perfectly combines the craziness of their antics and relationship in canon with romance and an absolutely insane amount of pining. This fic is hilarious and truly captivating and has some of the best dialogue and character interactions I have ever read, I recommend this fic to everyone.
Everything Changes by Georgia_K
This fic is the 3rd longest on AO3 and the chokehold it has on me is immense. I have read every single chapter and I am regularly re-reading and finding new details and things I missed with my first time reading. Obviously, its length is the thing that catches most people's attention, but the portrayal of Mark and Seb's life through so much, and especially Georgia_K's ability to write children and truly captivating family life is highly underrated. Most people won't read the whole thing for obvious reasons, but I recommend giving it a shot and you may fall in love with it (and Seb and Mark) like I have.

1. Strategy in Motion
-a funny hetalia fanfiction where America beats England at chess, based on a meme. It's short and funny.
2. Forced Perspective
-Invader Zim and Dib become friends, and there's some whump along the way. Somehow managed to capture the show's humour... I suspect the author kidnapped Jhonen Vasquez.
3. Dead Star Shine
-a fantastic post-series Cowboy Bebop fic series. Spike lives in this series.
4. Keep Chasing Your Thieves- uh, Dreams
-Lupin III and Les Misérables crossover for humour. Zenigata and Javert bond over never catching the guys they chase.
Uhh,,, that's all I got. I don't have so many to rec, but I think these four are fun.

Oh wow, limiting it to 10 will be tough, but here we go. In no particular order, a sampling of fics I've loved recently by authors whose work I really enjoy:
Bell Curve, or, Ladies Night at the Boom Boom Room by rageprufrock
Stargate Atlantis: a John/Rodney AU with a very funny premise and great execution.
A Strange New Story Every Time by gyzym
Veronica Mars: the perfect Logan/Veronica post-series story.
What We Pretend We Can't See by gyzym
Harry Potter: My absolute favorite post-series fic, long and plotty with a good mystery.
The Crown of the Summer Court by astolat
Merlin: Merlin/Arthur, basically impossible to choose a favorite work by astolat, who writes in a bunch of my favorite fandoms - just go and read everything.
Ordinary Life by Speranza and astolat
Stargate Atlantis: another John/Rodney classic, and Speranza is another author with a lot of terrific stuff.

Teen Wolf: fantastic Derek/Stiles

Stargate Atlantis: the most gutting post-series fic you could hope to read, and so good.
(When I Grow Up I'll) Be A Monster by waldorph
Star Trek AOS: emotionally brutal but fantastic, part of a larger series that's amazing. Waldorph is another favorite author.

I recommend "And They Didn't Live Happily Ever After" by Betz.
This is a Harry Potter fanfiction with the ship Hermione Granger/ Severus Snape (And there is absolutely NO underage.).
The work takes on an interesting concept, and has one of the most compelling story lines I've ever read. The characters are all very distinct, and even seemingly one-off characters have important rolls in the story.
Our favorite cast of characters all have some sort of character development, giving the story an added layer of depth.
Even the OC's serve integral roles in the story, and merge with it seamlessly.
I highly recommend this!

I am a man of few words, and will therefore make my reasoning for each one brief.
1: Old Morality, by HerdOfTurtles.
Do you like psychology and people who are profoundly messed up? Old Morality, and its sort of continuation that I will suggest below, are the fics for you.
2: On Politics and the English Personification, by HerdOfTurtles.

3: The Debate on West 81st Street (in which Jerry and George go insane), by Boofallomozzarella.
Are you both a philosophy nerd and a Seinfeld enjoyer? Well, first of all, you're an interesting kind of person, but more importantly, this is greatly amusing. Also short.
4: In Another Pair of Shoes, by Trying_to_sleep.
Short and funny story about a much happier ending to Merlin.
5: I, uh, don't remember its name. It was a Gravity Falls fanfic, it was really long, it shipped Dipper and Pacifica, they return to Gravity Falls. I would appreciate it if someone found it for me, but take this as an opportunity to just search for fics matching this description and have fun with what you find, just to see what things pop up, I guess.

My top recommendation surely is uncharted waters by vestigialmoods!
It's a Shanks/Buggy fic that had me on a chokehold the whole time! The characterization is on-point, the scenes are captivating and I didn't even see time pass whilst I was reading! The atmosphere is so well-built and the author portrays really well the mix of awkwardness, bittersweetness and adoration between them. The background characters get to shine as well and I swear this fic has some parts that haunt me today still! I even drew a fanart for it, and I'm hardly an artist, I just love it so much.
Then there's Translate the Problem by Professor_Anxietree , a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) fic that expands on the idea that Mikey was actually in dimension X for years! All alone. And how it changed him in more ways than one and he tried to hide it from his brothers for a sense of normalcy. I love how each character is portrayed! With Raph's short temper and Donnie's analytical tendencies and Leo trying to be the good leader-slash-big-brother. How the changes make them have to face their issues and find a new balance and how everyone has their own brand of brotherly love.
And I'll end it with The Curse of the Deserted Heart: A Tantalising Tale of Love and Adventure Amidst the Dunes of the Lost City That Will Thrill, Chill and Delight You! by kyaticlikestea, 'cause ten is a bit too much for me, so I'll take three, thanks! Anyway, the title itself is pretty telling, uh? It's my very favourite The Mummy (1999) fic and, if it still has a fandom ('cause it should, it's so good), this fic deserves all the attention it can get! It's funny, kept me up until 3 AM on a week day (no regrets), the ship is treated with utmost care (Jonathan/Ardeth) and the scenes made me laugh, got me tense and had me seeing everything unfold in my mind like a movie! What else is there to ask for? Great fic!

These lists could always be 3 times as long, but here are 10 recent recs, including vids, fic and events:
1. The Festivids Challenge has been running for years and is a great opportunity to find vids for small fandoms! Following are some vids from their latest round.
2. [vid] satisfaction by Tafadhali. Wonderfully edited recap of The Quick and the Dead, which did not get enough love when it was released.
3. Northwest Passage by Extra Penguin. A celebration of Molly Cobb from For All Mankind. Humanity missed out on having heroes like this and I don't think enough people have seen this great series.
4. Come Forth Now by alba17. A great recruiter vid for Andor. So well edited and paced and featuring so many characters and their roles. Just excellent.
5. After Camlann is a long running Merlin event with a lot of wonderful stories.
6. The Legend Of Liob by Killbothtwins. "The Republic sends a combat photographer to be attached to the 212th until further notice, citing the need for a morale boost. The clones make up a fake clone, citing the absolute fact that it is very funny. Somehow, these two things save the galaxy." Of all the ways in which Palpatine and Order 66 get defeated, this was probably the most entertaining. I love how bureaucracy saves the day!
7. Failsafes by Luna (lunasky). Time loop stories are a favorite of mine but it's intriguing how so many writers manage to do something a little different with their stories. In this Stargate Atlantis tale, the way it's told is a part of the appeal, the choppy, somewhat disoriented nature matching what's going on in the characters' heads. But best of all is the kicker of an ending.
8. World Enough And Time by laiqualaurelote. "1929 is going terribly for Jack Robinson, who is about to be suspended for trying to do his job. Then a glamorous time-travelling alien crashes his ex-wife's wedding, absconds with his feelings, and whisks him out of 1929 altogether. After all, there's a whole world out there. A Doctor Who AU" Even thought I am not a Who watcher, I found this Miss Fisher tale delightful reading.
9. Sufficiently Advanced by idlestories. "Merlin is the best hacker in the galaxy, thanks to the illegal technology in his brain that lets him connect directly to computers. After taking a step back from Morgause and her ruthless brand of revolution, he’s alone and jaded, drifting through the system and targeting the rich and powerful. Arthur is the secret son of justice minister Uther Pendragon, hidden from the public eye all his life after the death of his mother at the hands of revolutionaries." Although possibly stuck with the last 2-3 chapters yet to go, this story has plenty of setup and one of the most convincing portrayals of a Merlin in a space AU that I've yet seen.
10. 360-degree feedback. by bysine. Gen. Doctor Strange-Shang-Chi crossover where Wong is haunted by Wenwu. Fills in some blanks in an amusing way. I really enjoyed spending time with Wong and finding out more about him and Mordo.

I'm not that good at recommending stuff so please forgive me if the summary I'm giving isn't that good.😅 I'll probably add other stories as I read more but so far, these are my recommendations!
1. Unwilling Babysitter by KatfromHeli
I really love every single of KatfromHeli's Villain to Kill stories but 2 of them are truly the best ones I've read. This fandom barley has any works but this one makes up for it. It's basically if Uchan got turned into a child and somehow, Cassian ended up babysitting him-hence the title. It's a pretty good sized story-in my opinion-but my description doesn't do it justice. This writing is absolutely amazing and the story overall is terrific.

2. Four Children are Better Than One, But Not for Cassian's Mental Health by KatfromHeli
This is the sequel to Unwilling Babysitter and is the second story I mentioned. Now, instead of just Uchan as a child, Driver, Crow, and Redeye also got turned and guess who had took care of them. For this one, I'd highly recommend reading Unwilling Babysitter first but it's up to you. It also brings in the Jeff Lives AU so we do get to see some Cassian and Jeff sibling interactions. We also get to see other characters such as Naeun, Chaeha, and Jiseon interacting with the now-turned children. This story along with Unwilling Babysitter are my actual favorites on AO3.

3. All In (my heart's in your hand) by Sentient_Stove
One of the few Ghostfire stories that covers everything I'd love to see in one, not that others aren't good either though. Instead of Nico barely interacting with Leo in HoO, he and Leo from a 'no strings attached' relationship while building the Argo II, until it forms into something more than that. Over the span of 38,000 words, the author beautifully writes their relationship through out post-TLH all the way to THO when Leo shows up on Festus, wrapping it up with a slightly cliche but sweet ending.

4. A Lifetime From the Hunt by thatonefandomjumper
A WIP updating every Monday but making it worth the wait. Instead of Leo coming back shortly from his death, he stays in Ogygia for what may have seemed like days to him, years in the mortal world coming back to an entirely different world than the one he knew. A Leo Valdez-centric fic that focuses on Leo trying to cling on to the last connections of the world he once knew when everyone else he loved is now gone. The author does an amazing great job on portraying Leo's point of view in the story.

5. The Fall of Leo Valdez by CricketCat
Also a WIP but is one of the best stories I have ever read. What if Percy and Annabeth never fell to Tartarus? Who would have closed the doors on the other side? Leo Valdez of course. When Annabeth and Percy never fell, Leo took their place. I absolutely love this fic so much. The story is well written, the different perspectives are portrayed wonderfully, and overall the story is just amazing. I don't think I could express how much I truly love this story and I can't find a way to actually describe it. But if you're a Leo fan and like a long story, I would definitely recommend you to read.

i tend to write more than i read by a significant margin so i don’t have a lot of recommendations but here are some of my favorites, in no particular order:
1) Poisoned Dreams by StrangeDiamond
— honestly this is probably the best fic i’ve ever read and i will never pass up an opportunity to plug it lol; without any spoilers it involves ragnvindr bros angst with a thriller-type beat
2) The Alchemist & the Traveler by 4dango
— this one is actually a fan comic but the art is so so beautiful, it’s albedo-centric but most of mondstadt makes an appearance
3) Calcium Carbonate, and Other Things That Run Bone-Deep by Princeliest
— kaebedo angst and body horror but it’s strangely poetic; an interesting study of love and death and everything in between
4) Lips Turn Blue by Volti
— i don’t typically go for reader-insert for several reasons but this one was an exception im so grateful for; it swept me off my feet and can easily be read as a qpr of sorts for all my fellow kaeya-obsessed aroaces out there
5) new space made when things fall apart by Ae_rynn
— domestic kavehtham fluff and mild angst; kaveh gets his shit together and alhaitham doesn’t want him to move out

1. Cephalophore by MawoftheMagnetar. A Hermitcraft fanfiction. This is the first fic in the Eldritch Horror Keralis series that examines that character of Keralis and what that means for a world full of his friends. These stories are well crafted and while at first seem unrelated, tie together in a terrifying wonder of imagination
2. Long Roads and Longer Tomorrows by MsBlam. A Bleach fanfiction. A story that deals with the emotions of what happens after the hero survives their big sacrifice but is abandoned by their friends. When given the opportunity, the hero let's go of the last bit of the world that abandoned him and finds a new home while still dealing with the consequences of his sacrifice. Every chapter expands the world and makes the grief the character go through while finding recover so real.
3. Father Material by Animegirl257. A Blue Exorcist fanfiction. Rin and Yukio are the sons of Satan, however in this story Rin didn't make it and Satan possesses the body left behind. It is a beautiful story about becoming a family with your family, and the pressures of Satan hiding in a school of students training to kill him.
4. Graveyard Shift by Mangopaw. A Danny Phantom DC crossover. The DPxDC corssover has taken over tumblr, this fanfic stands on it's own by not putting the Batfamily on center stage and instead let Danny Phantom live his life as a ghost who is just trying to work in the local asylum. A slow story that let's the eerie existence of the DP world seep into the cursed air of Gotham.
5. Treasures for a Treasure (pearls pale in your eyes) by TheWritingDJ. A One Piece fanfiction. A deep lore search into the world of One Piece if three gods lives in the world and their children are free to cause chaos. Keeping with the flow of the world but allowing the original content to fill in the gaps and make it it's own.
6. and the void did some other things too i guess by crabbunch. A Hermitcraft Naruto crossover. Part of the ethos exciting ninja vacation series, a collection of crack content, full of nonsense and joy of what happens when two people from different worlds look way to much like each other to the point where no one questions when they swap places.
7. The Med Room is Labelled, Goddamnit by Skipcount1. A Dream SMP fanfiction. A superhero AU following the the medic Ponk who believes on healing anyone at their door despite how his power may effect him. A powerful story dissecting the sides of a conflict from those forced to chose and those who don't. Well written and it's just really good.
8. The Breaking Point of a God by grey_cat_crozzing. A Hermitcraft Watcher fanfiction. A character study of the god like beings of Watchers and what it means for the character who ran away from it all to suddenly be reminded he can never escape. How powerful a god becomes when he gains his first worshipers. A painful character study that's a cathartic journey in self identity and placement in the world.
9. Go Full Circle Then Go Again by InatelyCrow. 3rd Life Fanfiction. A time loop fanfiction where the loser of a death game is sent back in time to try try again. Different alliances are formed, different lives are lost. The writing throughout the fic is expertly put together that gets you invested in each loop to the point where the shock of the reset happens every time because each loop feels like it could be the solution.
10. Hamnet by MarsManhunter. Honestly, this one is just good.

In celebration of crossovers and fusions:
1. The Proud and the Prejudiced, by Madam Mistress, with really delightful Regency-family-tree-ish portraits by Lidu. Austen x Untamed fusion, with terrific canon-crossing rarepairs.
2. And There Was a Great Calm, by harborshore. The Dark Is Rising x Green Men (Spectred Isle). Nondescript blokes saving the world...
3. What Married People Do, by Shamelesscooper. Scum Villain x MDZS. Can be enjoyed without knowing SVSS. Fabulous longfic with one character taking great pains to meet their partner where they are, even as where they are evolves. I love seeing that dynamic, where one's self-awareness and sexuality aren't static.
4. Of All the Worlds of Mice and Men, by beautifulduckweed. Band Sinister x The Tsar's indecent hot sauerkraut wrestling ring. Prior acquaintance with the sauerkraut wrestling not required. Look, I love that fandom means I get to write sentences like that.
5. Unwinding, by Fahye. Think of England x Jeeves. I may have reread this every day for like a month after first encountering it. Fizzy and funny and sexy.
6. Hi, I'm Captain Jack Harkness, by Frostfire. Torchwood x Star Wars. Chewbacca/Jack Harkness. I read it on LiveJournal back in the day, and it's just such a great hook-up between two companions who Have Seen a Lot.
7. Star Pupil by Daegaer. Rabbinic and Talmudic Judaism RPF x Good Omens. Samuel of Nehardea has some run-ins with authority / authoritative figures.
8. space, skin, muscle, bone by tombneough_and_continent. Untamed/MDZS x Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian star respectively as The Swan and The Prince, figuring out their roles and each other. Fun cameos/mentions of other MDZS characters. (And if anyone can clue me in on the "cob" pun in chapter 1, please shoot me a note?)
9. Bredon in Narnia by antisoppist. Wimsey x Narnia. Bredon Wimsey is unimpressed by the White Witch. Short, droll, perfect glimpse of a justifiably self-assured child.
10. For winter's rains and ruins are over by ChronicBookworm. David Blaize x Narnia. Frank Maddox meets the Pevensies at Cambridge. Like rec #3 above, this fic speaks to me partly because it's the journey of a character to acceptance of who they are.

I only have five but here we go anyway.

1. America's Guide to Getting Into Trouble by ShiftyChange
Fandom: CountryHumans
Summary: "Trust me I've seen some things, being 250ish years old and all, but maybe -just maybe- I'm in too deep..." In this book, America directly addresses the audience, narrating the chain of events that led him to discover some shocking truths. These truths are not only about his county's government, but also the other country-humans and himself. The questions he ignored for so long come back to haunt him, "Where did he come from?" and "why is he immortal?", but at least he isn't the only one who's curious.
Review: I love the humour and light-hearted nature of the fic. (I'm also a history nerd so I'm a little biased)

2. Why Don't You Love Me? by humsbugs
Fandom: CountryHumans
Summary: Russia gets rejected.
Review: Hurt and comfort is strong in this one, and I love it.

3. Standing at Attention by ThinkingRobot
Fandom: CountryHumans
Summary: A military meeting transcends its bonds. I wanted to write smut and suddenly there was some plot in the middle of it. My apologies.
Review: Best NSFW CountryHumans fic I've ever read 10/10.

4. Indifference by papagotsalience
Fandom: Ghost (Sweden Band)
Summary: A Catholic sister has a crisis of faith and finds herself on the doorstep of a Satanic abbey.
Review: Comforting and very well written.

5. Satanic Ritual by GerardLeto
Fandom: 30 Seconds to Mars, My Chemical Romance
Summary: Gerard's stupid ass friendship group tries to summon a demon. Too bad that demon is a clingy, cereal-loving, seductive piece of shit with no respect for boundaries. He's kinda cute though, so Gerard forgives him.
Review: Its funny and I like it.

I would love the opportunity to plug fics I like! From both AO3 and FFN, where I began my writing:
1. Drown
Fandom: Avengers, Thor, MCU
Summary: "Three months after Operation Avengers all is well. Or is it? When Steve and Tony hack into SHIELD to find missing weapons shipments they find more than they bargained for in the form of a prisoner who should, by rights, have been sent to Asgard long ago."
Review: Or as I like to refer to it, the Avengers sequel we should have gotten but didn't. Love the character development, and dealing with the events of the movie.
2. In the Blood
Fandom: The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo
Summary: "While investigating an ancient castle, the gang mysteriously falls asleep one by one; awakening at an inn hours later, they find that Vincent has gone missing, and Daphne and Shaggy have to lead in a race against time to find him as, once again, the events of three hundred years ago return to the forefront."
Review: I love the 13 Ghosts, and when I discovered that Rose of Pollux was writing stories in the fandom, I was overjoyed. This one involves an expanded backstory for Vincent Van Ghoul, as well as growing the Found Family theme that is so prevalent through all of Rose's work.
3.Running Blind
Fandom:Danny Phantom, CSI
Summary: "Something supernatural is killing people in Las Vegas... and it all seems to lead back to a fifteen year old runaway named Danny Fenton."
Review: I never like to miss the chance to plug this story. Dejah Thoris has perfectly captured the feel of both series, and leaves things better than when the story started.
4. Tomorrow
Fandom: Doctor Strange
Summary:Post-movie. Steven heals from his injuries, tells Wong exactly what happened in the time loop, settles in to Bleeker St, and gets a job offer he can’t refuse. Oh, and he’s got to learn to live with an overly-affectionate, semi-sentient item of clothing which just wants to make sure he's okay, and might be a bit creepy about watching him in the shower.
Review: I hate to call it an after-action patch up, because it kind of isn't, but it's the kind of afterstory that goes so well with the movie, it ought to be an optional feature in the credits.
5. There and Back Again
Fandoms: Hogan's Heroes, The Lord of the Rings, Newsies
Summary: "A funny thing happened on the way through the mines, and WWII will never be the same... Hogan's Heroes/Lord of the Rings/Newsies crossover.
Review: I nominated this one last year, and I'm giving it a spot again this year, because everyone is so in character, and the epilogue makes it perfect. When the Fellowship ends up in Stalag 13, Hogan and his men will have to help keep them hidden, keep the one Ring from being found by the Germans, and help the Fellowship get back to their quest.
6. Vampire Energy
Fandom: Tron
Summary:"Programs keep turning up dead and drained. Will Tron find the killer in time, or become a victim himself? Or, what would a vampire look like on the Grid?"
Review: A great whodunit with a Noir feel, featuring Tron as the detective.
7.Only Yesterday
Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog
Summary:Sonic's been in a coma for years, completely unresponsive. Now he's awakened in a ruined world, ruled by Dr. Robotnik, all that he once knew gone or changed almost beyond recognition. Can he bring back yesterday's bright dreams, or is he doomed to fail?
Review: A gritty story about what happens to our heros after Robotnik wins. You can still recognize the characters even after all they've been through, but it's a well thought out take on what the outcome of Robotnik's victory would look like.
8.The Princess and the Fop
Fandom: Ace Attorney
Summary: Ema is a grumpy princess; Klavier is a not-so-suave frog. It's true love.
Review: The summary gets it in one. The author tried to keep to the Brothers Grimm style, and drops Ace Attorney Easter eggs in all the right places.
9.A Ghostly Cry
Fandom: Danny Phantom
Summary: Danny loses everyone he loves when they are killed in a fire, leaving him to be taken in by his godfather, Vlad Masters. How will they survive each other and the vengeful demon that killed his family? It won't be easy, especially when everything isn't what it seems and Danny has no powers to help him deal with everything. Gore. Dadvlad.
Review: An in-depth, well thought out story, currently under heavy revision, which is only making it better. NOTE THE GORE TAG. There's not a lot of it, but what's there hits like a truck when it comes.
10.Coffee With Alfred
Fandom: Batman/Superman Adventures (Honestly could fit well in any fandom featuring both Batman and Superman)
Summary:Clark eats breakfast with Alfred. Bruce reacts.
Review: Exactly what it says on the tin. A lighthearted story where Supes makes it a habit to swing by and have breakfast with Alfred.

*rolls up sleeves* Okay, so, not all of these are new, but I've never done this before, so they're all 'new to this event'.
1. Of Course They Have Twitter In Hell: Good Omens, by Tosie
Done for IFWD 2020, I swear this is one of the only things that made that year bearable. Beautifully crafted, not only in terms of writing style and characterization, but the fandom references are to die for. Also, I swear this is my favorite use of footnotes ever.
2. Love and Languish for His Sake: Midsummer Night's Dream, by Alchemine
I love how Alchemine writes the fair folk! Absolutely love it! Not just the physical descriptions, but the absolutely fickle, human enough to look familiar, but not human at all psychology. Makes me purr every time.
3. Till the Boys Come Home: Downton Abbey/Historical, by sheldrake
Creepy and cool all in one, with the added bonus of being written from the PoV of the same historical figure Julian Fellowes used in Gosford Park to serve as an almost unintentional crossover. I love the way Ivor and Thomas play off of one another - one the eternal optimist, the other eternally jaded. Lovely bit of writing.
4. But Among Our Own Selves We Shall Be Free: Downton Abbey, by Alex51324
Crack treated seriously to create one of the most entertaining AUs in history. Also encourages fan interaction, which is a bonus, as far as I'm concerned. ...of course, I'm about the only person to have taken advantage of that for some reason...
5. Twelfth Night - The Season 5 New Year Special: Downton Abbey/Agatha Christie's Poirot, by Jolie_Black
Holy Script Format, Batman! And well done script format! It also beautifully fuses the two fandoms, picks up on some lovely canon details to make use of, and is generally quite enjoyable. This is what finally pushed me to read Agatha Christie.
6. A Soldier's Declaration: Downton Abbey, by Orchidae
Okay, yes, this one was gifted to me and I'm probably biased. But. BUT! It was gifted to me by a wonderful writer who did a bang up job with the historical details and it features one of my favorite rare pairs. Seriously, do you know how little Thomas/Peter Pelham there is out there? And this is seriously good.

10: Dinner To Go: Downton Abbey, by Nialuna
Everyone I know who has ever worked in customer service wishes they had a vampire boss who would eat the utterly beyond annoying customers. Therefore every version of this scenario is automatically appreciated. Add good writing and the DA Downstairs crew to the mix and you can't lose, you just can't.

Friendly reminder I'm always open to fic recs, my fav tags aside from Crossover/Fusion are Crack treated seriously, time travel ruin-it/time travel break-it, BAMF!current fandom blorbos (which are Jake "Hangman" Seresin and Tom "Iceman" Kazansky btw because I've been in Top Gun and Val Kilmer fever high since watching Top Gun Maverick 3? 4? weeks ago ehmm time is soup can't keep track)
In no particular order, these great fics deserve all the love:
1. all i want is to be a bit of warmth for you by ironicpanicattack
Madmartigan (Willow)/Jack (Legend) basically an Iceman/Maverick derivative ship fic. It's a two part series and rated explicit for a reason, to quote one of the commenter on ao3, this series deserve placed on hall of fame re smut haha.
2. a force to be reckoned with by winterbucky (WinterLadyy)
Top Gun & Percy Jackson Fusion, BAMF Jake. Do I need to say more?
3. In Perpetuity, As It Calls by lapsedpacifist
Star Wars and The Culture - Iain M. Banks crossover. I'm not familiar with The Culture series but the author did a great job in this and after I finished reading the fic, I now seriously consider to read The Culture series myself haha, I want to understand all the references.
The worldbuilding is superb, Obi-Wan Kenobi is my blorbo in Star Wars and the author wrote BAMF!Obi-Wan deliciously. Obi-Wan/Anakin side ship is just an additional treat for me to get hook.
4. Black Magic by DragonflyxParodies
DC & Harry Potter crossover. What if Jason Todd is Regulus Black's son? The fic follows the event when Jason was called back to England to address the whole fiasco surround the Black family heritance when Sirius died, btw they were calling it Lord Black will reading, the audacity! What could go wrong with negotiating a ceasefire (Wizarding world brand) with Red Hood-brand grenade huh?
Watch Jason Todd tear the British Wizarding world brouhaha of Legal system to pieces while at the same time yeet one Lord Voldemort to the afterlife, for real. Also Death made appearances; I love it when my bois Jay is touched by Death. BAMF Molly is precious, remember to mind all the tags readers!
5. When Sanity Runs Out by heretoday898
DC & Star Wars crossover. Jason Todd and Roy Harper got thrusted into the GFFA verse and BAMF!Jason went around killing Siths with his BAMF flaming swords the All Blades. Roy basically initiated the whole galaxy-wide Clones liberation, is liberation the right word here I don't know I just love it when Roy did BAMF things haha.
Star Wars universe-wise the timeline is set near the end of Clone Wars and my blorbo Obi-Wan was featured a lot. The Anakin & Jason building frenemy dynamic is intriguing to read too.
6. Blue Fire, Yellow Flames by Luki (KelpieCodyne)
Katekyou Hitman Rebord and Boku no Hero Academia crossover. Reborn is my fav character in KHR and I love love love it when his brand of insanity and BAMF are yeet to another much more down-to-earth universe like BNHA (I know down-to-earth is a wrong word to describe BNHA but c'mon compared to KHR brand of mafia being world saviours it kinda is)
Reborn got reborn into the Todoroki family, guess which sibling? I just love the ride from start to finish.
7. Travellers from an Antique Land by kaydeefalls
My favourite Old Guard fanfic. I just love good ol immortalwives Andy/Quynh. This fic follows the role-reversal premise of what if Andy was the one trapped in the iron coffin instead.
8. 五安宇宙 byMarbel
The Chinese version is completed; the English version is ongoing. Jujutsu Kaisen & Boku no Hero Academia crossover. What if Gojo Satoru married Todoroki Enji and all the Todoroki siblings are their biological children? That's it that's the premise. It's a series of ficlet and oneshot so the timeline is non-linear.
9. Thy Good Neighbor by blahhh_1
Bloodborne and A Song of Ice and Fire crossover. I never finished watching Game of Thrones and never read any book of ASoIaF but I just love love love the Stark. Also Second Childhood ending Hunter and Doll in Westeros, what could possibly go wrong huh?
10. [柯南+原神]在柯南世界尘世闲游 by kaos
Genshin Impact & Detective Conan crossover. Zhongli isekai-ed to the world of Detective Conan after the event of Genshin Impact. It's a WIP fic but the author updates at least three chapters a week. I've been having treat because it's Lunar New Year and daily new chapter is the best LNY gift ever haha.
Alright 10 is a hard number to stop. I have so many fics to rec and so many fics I want to read, and yet so little time.
As usual, please shower me with your best crossover/fusion, crack treated seriously fics!
Before I go, I want to make a honorable mention: Under Your Skin Feels Like Home by shadowsapiens. Few years ago I discovered this fic via comment threads under the International Fanwork Day Feedback Fest news post. To this day it's still one of my precious gem and favourite. I just hope that few years later another fan would consider one of the fics I rec today their favourite too.

I am really not one for explaining my recs, but for this event I think I can manage. I'll stick to only works I've read this year, but my full list can be found here.
The Doctor and the Magizoologist by korropokuru - Doctor Who/Fantastic Beasts crossover.
I am not really a Potterverse fan, but sometimes crossovers can be really engaging, especially the ones that delve into opposing worldbuilding. The ways that Newt and the Doctor approach each other's worlds are so in-character and convincing and it was wonderful to read.
The Second Labor Job by justanotherStonyfan - Leverage/Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover.
Fics based around the concept of "what if the Leverage OT3 adopted Bucky Barnes" are remarkably common, and this is one of the best. I really love stories that deal with themes of trauma without them being the main focus, and this does that very well. And the story is fun! It's a bit of a casefic, but with added Stucky angst.
No One Understands the Chemistry We Have by PleaseDontGetMeRescued - Heathers (primarily musical canon). I finally got around to watching the Heathers: The Musical proshot and this was one of the best fics I found as a result. It's a lot of the struggles of moving on from traumatic events mixed in with complicated romantic feelings while they're on the run from the cops. What's not to love?
You're Like, The Magic Twins or Something by Jalules - Gravity Falls. One of a number of fun fics exploring a more magical version of the Pines twins. Mabel and Dipper have very different magic from each other in this story, which really adds to their dynamic and can occasionally be plot-convenient! Mabel's magic follows interesting witchy rules, while Dipper's struggles with his are both realistic and entertaining.
Precious metals by Hauntings - Buzzfeed Unsolved/Watcher. I don't read very much RPF anymore, but as far as I can tell the guys are fine with it, and this one was engaging enough that I couldn't resist. It follows the time-old concept of Shane as a demon, but something about this particular series really stood out to me, though I can't place exactly what that was.
my father's daughter by youknowthelines - The Last of Us (TV). Another thing I finally got around to watching, although this was only for a class. I'm a great lover of child main characters and Sarah's death saddened me, but this fic got all the healing done easily. In the show, it's easy to tell that Joel views Ellie as a sort of reincarnated Sarah, but the presence of a ghost that only Ellie can see makes it both more intimate and more heartbreaking.
the bells, the joy (together in darkness) by formosus_iniquis - Stranger Things. When they said long awaited, they really meant it. This was exactly what I had been needing since I first watched season three and came recommended from a friend in the Bi Aro Steve Harrington Agenda server, so I knew it was going to be amazing. I had to send this to my partner after I read it, despite them knowing nothing about Stranger Things, because it managed to hit so close to home in a non-supernatural way.
The Boy Who Killed Time by Netgirl_Y2k - Doctor Who. I was trying to keep to one rec per fandom, but I couldn't just pass this one up - I watched the Twelfth Doctor episode where Clara is trapped in the TARDIS burning only a few days after reading this, so it really stuck with me. Martha is haunted by the ghosts of the Doctor's past as times converge.
That's all I have so far this year without a ton of duplicate fandoms. Like I said at the start, I have an extensive list, primarily for my own benefit, so I can find things I loved.

Ain't No Grave by spitandvinegar Bucky/Steve - This story is six years old and still rings in my mind from the imagery. The prequel, The Needle and The Killing Done is also excellent.
The Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail series by owlet - Bucky /Steve. Funny, bizarre, and ultimately tender. Stands up to numerous reads.
Five Minute Window series by Speranza - Bucky/Steve. Just damn good and is still being updated as a yearly treat.
Happy Birthday, Steve Rogers comics by potofsoup. 10 so far - life in the US of A through the times of Steve Rogers post Winter Soldier. Thoughtful criticism and great art.
Dangerous Dreams series by shirozora - The Mandalorian. What the third and future series of The Mandalorian should have been. Filoni can go suck on a monkey lizard barbeque stick.
From The Child's Point of View series by Lailuva. The Mandalorian Two seasons retold - charming as hell.
Northwest Passage by kryptaria Sherlock/John. Sherlock is a junkie. John is a doctor. There is one cabin in the Canadian wilderness. Discuss.
The Revenge 1717-1719 and Land Piracy 1719? Series by Janesane Our Flag Means Death Ed/Stede. Wild ride,many pufferfish are eventually injured - many living beings and some chinaware damaged. Many drugs are used. Legal prostitution appreciated. Book clubs are started and bidding wars occur .Has spawned a Discord of mildly insane fans, friends, and co-conspirators.
For Check Please! fans (or people who would like to be) read anything by justlookfrightenedandscuttle or RabbitRunnah. You'll thank me.
It's Called a Flush series by deniigiq -The Mandalorian/Star Wars Universe ( bops around a bit). I like to think of it as "Din is just done with all this shit why can't he catch a break" series. A sane man in an insane Universe who just wants his kid to be safe and to be able to get a nap in sometimes. Luke is particularly charming - if insane - as a young man who has dealt with millions of deaths, responsibility for restarting the Jedis, and multiple force ghosts following him around criticizing his efforts would be. Din wants Luke to be safe and get a nap as well. Hijinks occur.

    Thank you for the reply - Ain't no grave is chilling, yet ultimately love and hope triumphs. I've read it many times.
    There was a Bucky in Hydra's custody story that involved animal suffering as part of the "training" and final breaking of a man into the Winter Soldier.
    Nearly a decade after reading, this story still churns my stomach - I've forgotten the title and author but the story still haunts. Fantastic writing yet I can wish I'd never seen it.
    Some writers have more power than they can dream.
