Chapter Text

“We need to talk.”

Moon’s voice echoed throughout his mind, breaking the disturbing silence. Talk about what?.. There was nothing to talk about! Everything was fine, of course!

“Whatever about, Moonie?” Sun asked with a tone of innocence in his voice.

Moon didn’t want to pry the answer out of Sun, but he knew that if he didn’t at least try that he would never know what was truly wrong.

“Something’s obviously bothering you.” Moon gave him a confused and worried look.

He forced a smile, trying to look as happy and unbothered as possible. He didn’t want to bother Moon with his silly worries after all!

“Nothing’s bothering me at all! Nope nopeNOPE! ” He defended quickly.

Moon could easily see through Sun’s facade. The two of them had been in the same body for a few years. They knew each and every single detail of the other, from their personalities to their flaws.

“Sssunshinee, I’m just worried about you. You seem so.. sad. ” Moon said with a frown.

Sun raised his head, sighing as he looked Moon in the eyes. Seeing his partner worry so much put a pang in his heart.

“I-It’s not that I’m sad , more.. disappointed with myself. ” Sun explained.

Moon’s faceplate did an entire 360° at this answer. Why would Sun , the most wonderful and amazing animatronic ever, be disappointed with himself?!

“Starlight... why?” He asked, soft spoken as he waited for his partner to continue.

“E-erm..” Sun sputtered as he tried to explain, “Do you remember how we found Starfly?” Sun asked.

Now Moon was even more confused, what did Starfly have to do with this?… I guess it was time to find out..

“Of course I do, we found him in the dark hallways on our way to DJ’s club.” He answered.

“Right, right.. but what I meant was how he was when we found it.” Sun continued, “Moon,.. he was alone .”

Moon took hold of Sun’s hand, giving it a soft squeeze as he spoke, “I know, but.. now he’s not.. right?”

Moon felt a sting of doubt behind his own words. The lunar animatronic looked at his counterpart, who looked like he was about to cry. His optics slightly shook as he thought about his next sentence.

The brighter animatronic shook his head, “He’s always upstairs, barely gets to play with the other kids because of my worries about human staff.”

“I-I know we do let him out and play on certain days b-but..” Sun’s voicebox crackled as he tried to continue, only for nothing but squeaks to sound.

Moon’s eyes widened at the realization. Was that really what was happening? Now that he thought about it.. the floor bot didn’t even leave some days of the week.

But when it did leave, it was always during the darkest hours of night when nobody was there. Sun had a point about the first part, however..

“Don’t you dare blame yourself for this, I won’t let you sit here and talk about yourself like that. If it’s apparently “your fault” then it’s mine too for not noticing.” Moon declared.

All of this time he hadn’t even bothered to think about how the small robot was doing with these changes to it’s lifestyle, while his partner had felt all of the guilt alone.

The lunar animatronic took a deep breath in as he sighed, “We can discuss a solution later, but for now..”

Moon opened his arms wide, “You look like you could use a hug, Sunbeam.”

Sun immediately jumped into his arms, sniffling as he clung onto his lover. Moon just placed a light kiss to his sunrays, glad to have his Sunshine once again.

If you guys haven’t noticed, I’ve been making SO much of this stuff up mid-story. It’s so random and I don’t know how to fix it 😅 I’m not even sure when the story is going to end! 🥳
