Chapter Text

Ollie was woken that night by the sound of creaking coming from above deck. Slowly he crept out of bed, careful not wake Miss Jay up from her slumber, and snuck upstairs. He hid behind a wall just before reaching the top and poked his head out to see two figures on the deck.

His ears perked up in fear before lowering, recognizing the fishy features on the taller one, and a waving axe earring on the other. He watched carefully, worried for another duel before realizing the two were sharing a dance. Although neither were perfect in their steps; Chip was looser with his steps whereas Gillion’s steps were rigid, they were both doing surprisingly well as Ollie watched the two twirl together.

It appeared Gill was leading but a couple of times Chip subtly took over and once performed a small dip with a smug grin written on his face as he watched the tritons expression become one of surprise, only for it to melt into a fond smile, the two left giggling. Chip spun Gill out and they continued fairly seamlessly into a well paced rhythm.

Gill then secured his arms under Chips armpits and then with a boisterous and toothy smile lifted Chip up and spun him around two or three times. The man went from confused to shocked to laughter as he realized what was happening. He was a little dazed once his feet were on the ground again, but caught his balance using Gill to stand steady and continue their little dance.

The dance was clumsy but free, and their smiles hadn’t faded throughout the whole messy waltz as Ollie watched entranced by their steps and thought, ‘maybe what mom said about love was right.’

Eventually the dance was coming to a close as both of them were tiring as they closed into a soft hug holding each other up. And Ollie faintly heard from a distance:

“Not bad Tidestrider.”

“You did wonderfully yourself, Chibo.”

The voices were fond and the moment tender as the figure’s faces closed in, silhouetted by the night sky, it made for the ideal ending for a dance such as theirs.

But this moment definitely sounded like an ending to Ollie so he was quick to scurry back to bed, as to not get caught snooping.

The night was filled with greens and teals and sky blues dancing together just like those two. And in their exhausted state they sauntered back down sharing a glance before returning below deck, to whatever adventures may behold them next.
