Summary
Tighnari wasn’t sure when he first fell in love with Cyno. There wasn’t any specific moment where sparks flew or fireworks went off; it just happened. One day, he woke up and realised he had fallen for the General Mahamatra. But he didn’t plan on ever saying anything about it. Tighnari knew he would only get hurt in the process. But some nights, Tighnari was kept awake by thoughts of Cyno and the impulsive urge of the late hours to confess his guts to his friend. One of those nights, he gets a surprise visitor drenched in rain.

Despite the pounding of his head and the ache of his back (boy, was that one gonna bruise), Le Frog pulled himself up from the ground. He couldn’t let himself stay vulnerable in the streets of Rockfall, especially when those fledgling heroes could be after him.
Just as quickly as he had gotten up, his legs gave way beneath him, and he fell back to the ground. As he waited for the impact, it never came. Instead, he felt arms wrap around him and struggle to keep him upright. With this stranger’s help, Le Frog slowly got to his feet once more. He had no clue who would help him, but he certainly never expected the familiar face in front of him.

He finally sighed in frustration and looked up from his book. Cyno was laying on his side perpendicular to Tighnari, leaning on an elbow to prop himself up, and was arranging his cards in lines on the floor. “Hey Cyno, do you know how to massage?”
Something unexpected happens while Cyno is giving Tighnari a massage, and Tighnari for the life of him can't explain why.

Tighnari sighed, a gentle thing. “Look. My bow is over in that corner,” he gestured to the far right corner of the tent, where his bow indeed laid atop his day clothes. It was lucky enough to have that sort of cushion, as Cyno’s day clothes consisted of his helmet and a sprawl of assorted bands and elastane. “If you really insist, your polearm can ‘sleep’ next to it. Maybe that’ll make it a little less cold.”
“Really?” Cyno looked at the other man like he’d returned home with news of a promotion, or that he’d won a limited edition TCG card.
Tighnari’s gaze softened, and he massaged at one of his temples as he tilted his head to the side. “Yes,” he said, a laugh heavy in his voice.
Cyno scrambled up from where he sat—careful to step over Tighnari, fluffy tail and all (that took a wild amount of surface area)—and placed his staff ever-so carefully beside the Hunter’s Path.
“Here, the valiant warriors shall lie to rest, in preparation for their nigh skirmish.” Cyno declared, brushing off his hands and admiring his dutiful work.

Summary
Cyno wasn’t interested in his soulmate.
Love had never been a priority in his eyes. He always preferred to fight, to feel the rush of wind in his hair as he swept his opponents legs from under them. Besides, he saw how love changed people. Many of the problems he encountered when he sought out scholars who refused to honor the rules were because of love, love that warped into jealousy or anger.
Or, Cyno learns about botany, and maybe falls in love in the process.
