Chapter Text

Castiel walks out of the building, a frown heavy on his face. Castiel’s surprised to see Dean waiting in the car for him, his shoulders straightening once he spots Castiel coming out. Worry on his face once he sees Castiel’s expression. Castiel gets in the car. Wiping his eyes and looking at his legs.

“I didn’t get it,” his voice sounds sad, he sniffles. “I messed it up, I messed up my only shot.”

“Oh Cas, I’m so sorry. There’ll be other ones. I’m sorry.” Dean gives him a hug, holding him close. Castiel smirks against his shoulder, wow he is so gullible! He’s definitely a good actor. “Dude, why are you smirking? You was just-“ Dean stops himself before he bursts out into a grin realising what Castiel was doing.

“I got the part!” Castiel exclaims excitedly. Dean grins at him, pulling him for a hug but this one is less of a commiserating one and more of I’m happy for you hug.

“Well done man! That’s amazing!” Dean gives him a grin, and Castiel grins back. “Now you can get all of your grievances with the script to the director, and they will change it, make it better. Now, lets go to celebrate.”

They go to a bar for celebrations, and if they end up in bed together, doing some late night talking then no one has to know.

~*~

Overtime, Castiel and Dean have gotten quite close, have even gone on a date on more than one occasion, so Castiel is feeling pretty damn good about himself. He had recovered his friendship with Benny, Balthazar and even with Dean’s worker, Charlie. All because of Dean talking some sense into him.

Considering Castiel was so against the TV Show he was going to be in, now that they have been filming it for over a month, he found that it’s not as bad as he thought it would be. The director had taken his suggestions on board and had been surprised by how much of a difference to the show that they had made.

The co-workers were kind too, Castiel had made friends rather quickly with yet another Brit, Crowley. Crowley takes no shit, like Dean and he has a rather dry and quick humour, liking to tease Castiel about his knowledge, or lack of, in pop culture.

It’s a warm day on set and Castiel can’t wait to finish filming and meeting Dean to go on some sort of water activity the man had planned for them to apparently to cool them down, Castiel thinks its just because Dean wants to see him without a shirt, and he’s not complaining because he is very happy to see Dean shirtless too.

As soon as the director yells cut, Castiel’s rushing to his trailer, changing into something more appropriate for the weather. The scene required him to wear a full coat, and it was so damn warm he felt like he was going to pass out. He gulps down water before he leaves his trailer and walking to where Benny should be waiting for him… except he’s not.

Castiel looks around confused and his eyes widen as he sees Dean leaning against the Impala, wearing a sleeveless shirt that’s not buttoned up and a pair of shorts, his sunglasses resting on his nose. Castiel walks over, gasping as Dean grabs him and presses a kiss against his lips. “Got your swimming trunks in the back. Oh and I give Benny the day off.”

“I’m glad if that means I get to spend more time with you,” Castiel gives him a smile as they pull apart, climbing into the car. Dean starts the car up, cranking the volume up with a grin at Castiel, who begins to mouth along to the lyrics.

They drive along the road, Dean belting out the lyrics on the top of his voice and Castiel thinks his face is going to break if he carries on smiling so damn wide. They arrive at a lake and Castiel’s eyes widen as he sees what their activity is of the day. On the water is an inflatable water park. Looking at Dean, he notices just how giddy the younger man is.

Getting out of the car, they go inside, Dean paying for the both of them and they go to the changing room. Putting their swimming trunks on and putting their original clothes in the lockers provided for them. Dean grabs his hand as they walk to where the lifeguard gives them instructions, and they’re allowed to go.

Castiel loses count of how many times he slips, but he watches as Dean does the course like a professional. Castiel goes after him, managing to stay stood up as he rushes to Dean, who gives him a grin, pushing him into the lake. Castiel flails his arms around, until his head comes up to the surface again and Dean dives in like a cannon ball.

As they float in the lake, both laughing, Dean grabs his hands and looks nervous all of a sudden. “Okay so… I know we’ve been sorta dating for a good four months now, and I really like you Cas. I was hoping you would be my boyfriend? Make it official, y’know?”

“I really like you too, Dean.” Castiel smiles at him, squeezing his hand reassuringly. “Of course I’ll be your boyfriend.”

They finish the course and go home all giddy, excited about the events of the day and Dean calls Charlie immediately to tell her about his new relationship change.

~*~

The first time Dean and Cas say those three words, they’re partaking in an escape room, five months after Dean asked Castiel to be his boyfriend. This activity was all Castiel’s idea, and he brought along Balthazar and Dean brought Charlie.

Castiel and Charlie both were focussed on finding the clues and trying to get out, but both Dean and Balthazar were way too excited for that. The two of them practically pulling the room apart to find the key to the door. It’s only when Dean almost breaks a vase trying to get his hand in to get the metal thing out.

“Dean, I love you but oh my god can you focus please and actually take part in the activity?” Castiel doesn’t realise he’s saying it. The other three stopping and staring at him, shocked. “What?”

“Did you- What did you just say?” Dean asks, looking at him with wide eyes and Castiel realises immediately what he said. He goes to apologise, goes to say that he wasn’t thinking but he’s surprised when Dean walks over to him, putting both of his hands on his cheeks and pressing his lips against his. “I love you too.”

“You do?” Castiel doesn’t know why he asks that question. Dean shakes his head chuckling.

“Of course I do,” Dean assures him, pecking his lips again. “I’m sorry, I will focus and try and find clues. I just- I don’t like being locked in places, makes me feel panicked.”

“You should have told me,” Castiel makes a sad noise looking at Dean.

“It’s nothing, come on Cas we only have fifteen minutes left to get out of here.” Dean points to the clock and Castiel nods.

And if they don’t stick to each other’s side during the remainder of the game, then no one except the four of them has to know.

Leaving after being let out, Castiel gets in the car with Dean, he can’t help but think back to how they both met and how lucky he is that Dean was so understanding. Looking back now, Castiel thinks it’s crazy that a badly-written script is what brought him and the gorgeous barista together.
