Chapter Text
Lord Raiden was once again wandering the halls of his temple. While the tournament was still some time away, it was weighing on his mind. Even in the comfort of his own home he was still working tirelessly to ensure the safety of his humans and realm. Walking the familiar halls made it easy to clear his mind.
Of course, that was what he was doing until he started noticing something as he wandered. The monks that tended to and worshipped in the temple were persistently staring at him, some even lightly giggling. At first he did not notice nor care, even the most seasoned monk would look upon him in awe at times. It was not something he minded or faulted of his humans. But as he walked and noticed it happening every time, he began to feel quite a bit interested. Did he look odd?
It took him some time to shake off the idea that something was wrong with him. And he quickly went up to the first monk he spotted snickering light heartedly in his direction.
"Good evening, monk Lee," His voice was as strong as ever, and the poor monk nearly dropped the tray he was holding.
"Good evening, my lord, how may I help you?"
Raiden softened his voice, not intending to intimidate his human, "I only wish to ask, what has you and the others smiling so much as I walk by?"
Lee immediately stopped shaking, smile melting into an expression of delight.
"Ah, so you don't know."
Raiden quirked a brow, "Know what exactly-"
He was interrupted when he felt the gentlest of tugs at his robes. Glancing down, he spotted a familarly small face at his feet, teetering on unsteady legs, holding himself up by leaning on Raiden's calves.
Little Liu Kang looked very proud of himself, having finally caught up to his favorite god. It only occured to Raiden that the small child had followed him the entire time while he was too busy to notice.
Raiden was immediately overcome by a sense of pride, and he had scooped up Liu Kang without hesitation.
"Most impressive, Liu Kang. A very mobile and stealthy young man you are," He spoke encouragingly, his chest swelling with love for the baby boy. Liu Kang was just as excited, laughing softly at the praise.
Raiden reigned himself back in as he realized monk Lee was struggling to hide his laughter. Clearing his throat, he settled Liu Kang on his hip, bowing respectfully to Lee.
"Thank you for your assistance. I greatly appreciate you," Had it not been for Lee witnessing the exchange just seconds ago, he could have been convinced the demi-god had done nothing.
But he had seen the adorable exchange, and it was something he didn't plan on forgetting.
He bowed, smile still present on his face, "Of course, my lord. It is my honor."
Raiden politely excused himself as he walked away. But that did not keep Liu Kang from waving goodbye to Lee as he was carried off.
