Chapter Text
Epilogue
One year later
The sun was going down as I started to get ready for Emma’s Halloween party. Looking in the bathroom mirror, I painted the finishing touches of my face paint. Tossing an old towel on my shoulders, I sprayed temporary hair dye at the roots of my hair. Giving my hair a brown tone all around.
Spider helped me put away the spray and face paint. I used the paint to make my face look like an owl. Spider clicked their fangs excitedly as they placed brown feathers throughout my hair. I laughed as they jumped into the bathroom sink stained with the dye. They chattered in annoyance as I turned the water on so they could wash themself.
Throwing the towel into a basket at the entrance of my room, I changed into my costume. I put on an owl onesie over long underwear. Spider came in, clean and dry, holding a half mask in the shape of an owl’s face.
The sound of my doorbell put a smile on my face. Only one person bothers ringing my doorbell anymore. I picked up a brown messenger bag that Spider attached themself too. Opening the door revealed Dracula wearing a mouse costume, ears included.
“Care to accompany me to the festivities , my dear bird of prey?” He held a hand out with a bow.
I chuckled and took his hand. “With pleasure, my dear small rodent.”
I barely had time to close the door behind me as he led me to his jet. Inside, Renfeild and Baba Yaga were in the cockpit already dressed up. Renfield wore a pink suit and bunny ears, Baba Yaga wore a ballerina costume with wings and her amulet was a wand. They sat in the two chairs on the left.
“Witchling, you are looking great.” Baba Yaga complimented me.
“Thank you, you and Renfield look amazing.” I smiled as they thanked me in their own way.
Dracula and I sat in the two empty chairs on the right. Quickly we made it to the Wishbone’s.
Dracula’s bats left first and flew themselves into the open house. Renfield and Baba Yaga ran up to the door excitedly. I chuckled as Renfield hopped on Baba Yaga to ring the doorbell. The sound of thunder echoed within the house, a gasp was heard and once Renfeild jumped down there was laughing.
Dracula became stiff next to me.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Their silhouette, it looked like..” he swallowed and looked away. The image of his bat form came to mind. “I shouldn’t have come, not after everything I did. This was a mistake.”
Taking his hand into mine, I placed my free hand under his chin so he could face me. “You’re our friend now, Dracula.” I caressed his cheek as he leaned into my touch. “It took a few months, but you're not green anymore. And, the Wishbone’s invited you. If they didn’t want you here they wouldn’t have invited you.”
“But-“
“No “but”’s, let’s go have fun with our friends.” I dragged him inside and we were greeted by the sight of everyone dancing.
My friends, most of the Wishbone’s, kids from the children’s school, a few parents, and a few people the Wishbone’s meet while they were monsters were dancing. Max, as Einstein, was working with a projector with a boy in a lizard costume. Fay, as an elf, was dancing with a boy dressed as a knight. Cheyenne was at the dj booth playing music.
Dracula stood beside me awkwardly. Emma, as a hippie, looked at our direction and waved. She looked down and smiled at the sight of me still holding Dracula’s hand.
I smiled and pulled Dracula closer so we could dance near them. Frank, the mime, grabbed Baba Yaga’s wand and used it as a mock microphone, she was not amused and snatched it back.
We had a fun time and as the party started to die down, I walked over to my friends. Dracula was talking to Cheyenne about breathing exercises and new ways to positively release anger.
Diana, as a pirate, elbowed my side and gave me a sly smirk. “Who’s your date?” She asked with a grin.
I rolled my eyes. Dracula, as well as Renfield and Baba Yaga, never actually meet my human friends and vice versa. It would be impossible to explain how I was a real witch and that thee Dracula was my friend. Even more impossible to convince my friends that I wasn’t dating a guy they’ve never met before. Especially since we came in holding hands.
“That’s Drake, he’s a friend of the Wishbone’s.” Drake was the human name Dracula chose. It was close enough to his real name so he could easily correct himself.
“So he is your date.” Harrison, also a pirate, teased. “Why didn’t you tell us about him?”
“It never really came up.” I explained. “We just started to hang out.” Which was technically true, Dracula didn’t want to be seen in public until he stopped being green. That took about nine months.
“Oh really, so he wouldn’t mind if I made a move?” Micheal, the mustard bottle, batted his eyelashes at me.
I gently shoved him away. “He wouldn’t, but I would.”
Lucas, the ketchup bottle, laughed and threw his arm over my shoulder. “So a friend of the family that threw this party and someone you just met. What made you want to come with him?”
“He gave me a ride, with his uncle and his uncle’s girlfriend.” I shrugged.
“Oh, so that’s who gave you a ride.” Diana said in recognition.
“Are you ready to head home, Lizzie?” I didn’t notice when Dracula joined our group.
“You must be Drake, I’m Diana,” she pointed at herself. “That’s Harrison, Lucas, and Micheal, we’re Lizzie’s friends.” She gestured at everyone she mentioned.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you all.” Dracula gave a tight smile. I guess he felt out of place with new people.
Lucas gave a Cheshire Cat smile. What was he up to? “Pleasure’s all ours. And as for Lizzie leaving, we were thinking about heading back to my place. Just the two of us.” He gave me a suggestive wink. I rolled my eyes.
Dracula gave a low growl, then let out a breath. “Really? I suppose we’ll be seeing each other some other time, Lizzie.” Before I could say anything, he called out Baba Yaga, Renfield, and the bats to follow him out.
“Uh-oh,” Michael hid a grin behind his hand. “Looks like there’s trouble in paradise.” Harrison elbowed him.
I elbowed Lucas and heard the jet leave. “God, you’re such a jerk. Now who’s going to take me home?”
“We will.” Diana flicked Lucas on the ear. “Nice going goofball. The first guy that has a crush on Lizzie and you drive him away.”
I shook my head, but didn’t deny Dracula’s crush on me. I felt my phone vibrate in my bag. Taking it out I see a text from Dracula.
Bat Boy-Have fun with boy
Another text came in.
Bat Boy-That was from Baba Yaga. Ignore that message.
I smiled and texted back.
Me-Lucas was being a jerk. Diana is taking me home.
Me-Can’t wait to see you again next week <3
“Oh, nicknames and text emojis? You sure he isn’t just a friend?” Diana rested her chin on my shoulder.
I puffed out a laugh. “I’m sure.”
Bat Boy-Until next time, my dear.
I smiled at the text and put my phone away. I’m sure we’re just friends.
