Everybody here was tired. Of course they were. Less sleep wise, more "the universe fucking sucks" kind. Drinking copious amounts of cheap booze and some half assed cigarettes seemed to be the only getaway from all the pressure. Everyone wanted to die. Some already felt like they were rotting.

Author's notes: I’m autistic and see a lot of myself in Shane Hollander. So I thought, in this situation, what if he did exactly what I did the first time I hooked up with someone and didn’t know what the protocol was after it was over, what the next steps were, how to be like everyone else in a moment that felt amazing and confusing at the same time. What if he just asked?
Canon divergent from the first hookup seen in HR s01ep01. Some things are from the show - aged up Marleau and Hunter, mainly - but the timeline is a mix of both. Cecil tries to teach him how to cook and--with a little help from Cecil's selective attention and the freezer-life of beef--instead teaches him about the biology, fragility, and blind tenacity of humans and their nature... or at least one human's nature.
