Life is tough for a high-school student. We jump into a quarantine-lifted Hawkins, 1990. The consequences of the final battle with Vecna have left Will’s sight severely impaired.
Mike, juggling his roles between being a university-student and son to two newly disabled parents, ends up taking on the role of primary caregiver in he and Will's budding relationship, and with money given to them by the government the two of them have moved into a nice one-story house in Mike's college town; only an hour or two away from Hawkins' while being a close enough drive to Mike's campus.

Will is essentially blind, Mike is his caregiver. New tensions arise with their newfound dynamic and it puts a damper on their sex-life. Messily, they work it out by bickering in front of all their family and friends at Christmas dinner.
