Thomas, a knight from Luminara, is tasked to save a prince from the clutches of an evil dragon. A simple idea, in theory. Fairytales are typically very simple. Nobody gets into the nitty-gritty of how exactly one goes about slaying a dragon in the stories, because they're all about 'love at first sight' and 'true love's kisses' and 'happily ever afters'. Not exactly his cup of tea, but orders are orders. He can do this in a week, no sweat.
He's about five days in one of the most convoluted fairytales he's ever heard when he realizes that maybe, just maybe, he shouldn't have bet a year's worth of his salary against Snowbird and Rotation on this.

The very first thing to note about this story is that it's about Sirius Black. The second thing about this story is that it's a direct sequel to 'Our Good Friend Tom Riddle', so it's also about Tom Riddle, and we exclusively call him that in the narration. (you should read... but you don't have to). The third thing is that this is a "coming-of-age-during-a-war" story, and those make me cry like a baby so I'm trying to make it really lighthearted and funny but, y'all, life is not looking good for the students at Hogwarts as Tom Riddle, now forcing everyone to call him "Lord Voldemort", has returned to England in late 1970, after vanishing from society due to the gruesome and very public death of his fiancée. And it's especially looking grim... (say that again...) for the young and impressionable Sirius Black, who's watching, front row, the return of this... "mythic man". And he's impressionable alright: He thinks this guy SUCKS!
And After a year of watching his parents and their peers rally behind this lame-o dude, and making complete fools of themselves while doing it, he goes to his sorting Ceremony at Hogwarts with one burning thought: I don't want to be like my family. Which is a very brave thought, indeed.
