Kieran's a demon. There's some fine print on his contract but the term is close enough for casual conversation. He's the Hellhound of the Nine Rings, an enforcer for one of the major supernatural crime families in the city known as Saint Aurelia. He's not one for politics both mundane and supernatural, he just wants to keep his head down, do enough jobs to curry a little bit of favor, and maybe, some day, he'll be offered the chance to buy his own freedom.

Even in the dimness of the too-early morning, it was clear that his newly-acquired ears flattened in distress as he spoke, much like those of a kitten.
