Of course, when you were first met with that smile, saccharine and sickly, a shiver ran down your spine. It felt impossible not to respond that way; his entire existence felt like a taunt, a cruel challenger only interested in your value as a weapon. But over reckless training sessions and sharp, mocking cackles, the profile you'd built around the Vice-Captain seemed enough to be able to handle him for periods at a time.
