“Do you want me to go?” he asked in a cautious tone.
“No,” Mel said. She didn’t want him to go. “Can you stay for a minute? Unless… you need to get home.” A part of her was, despite knowing better, looking for confirmation of the rumor. She wanted to ask him why he hadn't told her instead of McKay.
