The plan is simple: reconnect with Shanks and break his heart.
The problem is he doesn't fucking want to. He hasn't seen Red since Marineford, and the last thing he said to Red was "I hate you." Not exactly primed for a friendly reunion.Except for the letters. They've been coming in increasing frequency since the two last saw each other. The letters speak of a Red who misses Buggy, who wants him around. They make Buggy feel something--he loathes every single one.
He most certainly does not have them all memorized.

Shanks misses Blue. His crew have been trying to get him to shut up about him for years. It got worse after Marineford, until it became a running joke that every mention of Blue's name would earn a berry in the Buggy Jar.So, when Buggy shows up out of the blue, he's ecstatic. He's so happy he can't even question why his ex-best friend would show up after years without contact. When Buggy mentions the letters, though, Shanks is confused. Years of alcohol abuse have left him with memory loss, and he can't quite remember everything he's done.
Without answers, Shanks plays along. He'll do anything to keep his Blue around.

A rewrite of Harry Potter if he had an aunt, and to answer all of the questions I had left after my reread andrewatch of the books and movies as an adult.
The rain started only after the coffins were put down and the earth finally took them back. When most of the people that came to pay their respect had already left. The Potter family had dwindled down to nothing during the war, and Mrs. Dursley had categorically refused to come to her sister’s funeral. This absence was erased by the multitude of gifts, cards, flowers and wizards that came where strangers.
Maggie was standing behind the big of the crowd, just a body more in the sea of people that came to honour the Potter’s memories. So many people talked, but not Maggie. She’d not been close to the Potter in school, and being friends with them now could’ve attracted the wrong type of attention on her.

Summary
I hated so much about this book- and the entire series- so I'm rewriting it how I wish Mull had done it in the first place. I wasn't too mad about the non-Knox early chapters, so my version's setup goes about the same as the original except for some tweaks and additions. But then the last 2/3 of the book are a reshuffled narrative mixing books 1 and 2, since I tried to rewrite the series only using established scenes and lore and plot points. I'm trying to keep the diction and vibe of my version in line with Fablehaven's tone and how the characters acted, and I'm trying to keep this book at a similar word count as the original (79,780 words), but my biggest priority is just making a story I would've loved when first reading.

I really wanted to expand on the feeling of regrets and how Solas uses that to manipulate Rook into taking his place. The consequences of Rook's choices will be featured and explored. I intend to recount the game and fill in some gaps, reintroduce lore from the old games and add scenes I thought were missing, like breaks after major missions (HELLO, ROMANCED COMPANION DURING PRISON OF REGRETS). It's as lore-accurate as possible to the old games, but I have taken some liberties. Characters from old games will have bigger roles to play. Rated E for eventual smut.
