With his hunger satiated, Shane looked at the wolf and found them still lying on the ground, snout resting only inches away from him. Their eyes were icy blue and content. Observing. Body curled around Shane’s slightly smaller form in an almost protective manner.
He had somehow let his guard down, and now this strange wolf that showed up out of nowhere was guarding him like an alpha would court, and protect, and care for their mate.

Summary
It was Hollander’s absence that had created this void. It wasn’t that Ilya had even cared, before. A quick thrill, that both knew would end. But then, Hollander had hijacked Ilya’s life, refashioned it in his own image, shaped it to fit the empty space he left in his wake. It was terribly cruel, the immeasurable impact that human beings could have on one another. Even more cruel, to walk away from the mess you had created, as Hollander had. At least have the decency to make it mean something.
After a nervous collapse, Shane Hollander returns home, only to be brought back into contact with the man he left behind, six years prior.

Basically a Queen's Gambit and Heated Rivalry AU of Shane Hollander born as Beth Harmon. Scott Hunter is inspired by both Jolene and Harry Beltik. Ilya Rozanov is Vasily Borgov but younger and also I use a lot more of Ilya's actual background. Follows Queen's Gambit plot except for where I add in more Heated Rivalry vibes. Shane and Scott grow up in the orphanage together before Shane is adopted by Yuna and David Hollander. He starts playing in chess tournaments and meets Ilya and they have their secret romance still.

Summary
The class had been incredibly boring. It was filled with ordinary people with ordinary lives, probably using art classes as their chosen medium of self-expression but just for a couple of months before they finally stopped caring. Ilya was sitting as still as he possibly could, but he found himself drifting towards Shane and those beautiful doe-eyes of his. There was a brief moment of physical contact during the class, as well, when Shane had moved towards him and trailed his finger against Ilya’s features, starting from his forehead and ending at his chin. It had been infuriatingly soft, and Ilya was not used to being touched that way by anyone.
Toward the end of the class, when the people started sketching on their notepads, Ilya noticed that Shane did too.

Rozanov gestures between the two of them, almost impatient. “I can pretend to date you for a bit to please the monkeys in the circus. Everybody thinks we are dating now, anyway, so we might as well use it. And paparazzi are stupid. Even though Scott Hunter is a prick, he is a prick that does not deserve this kind of negative attention.” He shrugs, almost casual, and looks Shane up and down. “Plus, am into boys as well as girls. Is honestly not a problem for me.”
or: Shane digs himself quite a big hole, and now everyone believes he is dating none other than Ilya Rozanov. This would be no problem if he and Ilya 1) were indeed dating each other and 2) could actually stand each other.
