I’m getting married in less than 48 hours. My 2 beautiful daughters will stand beside me as my bridesmaids. My fiancé’s 3 year-old, Ava, will skip down the aisle, with her sun-kissed curls bouncing, throwing petals. My future stepson, Andrew, will play a special role in the ceremony. He’s a sensitive teen, and we keep him close. Home is his safe place when the bullying at school is too much for him. He doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body. Andrew is so good with his siblings that I forget he’s a boy.
He and the baby will bear the rings. They’re so beautiful together. The baby is also named Andrew, but 4th in the family line. Of course, there’s more to that story—though not nearly as interesting as the story of how we got here.
I’ve always been independent, and it never appealed to me to have to catch a husband. But I’ve found one who will never, ever leave me—and this is the unbelievable story of why I can say that with absolute certainty. Of course, every relationship has its trials and tribulations.
