Everybody knew that Cassidy was rarely by himself. Whether it was for a simple chat, some tea or coffee or a full-on meal, there was someone around. And people liked him; he was relatively laid back and easy going, a good laugh and unexpectedly quick as a whip.
On the other hand, the elder Shimada preferred to seclude himself from the group. He would rarely get out of the apartment and, if absolutely needed, stalked around the complex in hopes of some peace and quiet before it inevitably erupted into organized chaos.
Ever since he’d come around – with no small amount of begging of his younger brother Genji – he had tried to interact with the other residents as little as possible, with only a handful of exceptions. Surprisingly, Cole Cassidy was among those select few. Unbeknownst to Hanzo, the true-to-life cowboy was in fact able to shut his ever-moving lips when the situation called for it. He had… allowed him in his space, but had slowly grown accustomed to the man and all the quirks that came with it, revealing themselves one at a time.

Boston's Ilya Rozanov decides to do what he'd been putting off for years. He calls off his affair with Shane Hollander, Montreal extraordinaire, right before a Montreal vs Boston game. He gets a hockey puck shot right into his hamstring for it. Right in the middle of the game. Honestly, he never guessed Hollander had it in him to be vindictive.
As for Shane...it works. He didn’t want to see Rozanov anymore. In this game. In this season. And now Ilya’s out. Ball and chained to healing and recovery, pain meds and physical therapy for the next year. Maybe when Rozanov comes back, Shane will be able to stomach breathing the same air as him again.
And Rozanov will be back. That much is guaranteed. Shane just fails to measure how back Ilya Rozanov will be. If he thought Rozanov was a nightmare on the ice before his injury, he’s got a reckoning coming.

After working together across two years, our four main characters - Julian Bashir and Elim Garak, plus Jadzia Dax and Eltrin Lintass (a Cardassian physician and researcher for the Order) - developed uncanny, if not volatile bonds with one another. They worked together on Empok Nor, DS9, and eventually Cardassia Prime, where both relationships began to exhibit fault lines carved from their respective political and employment affiliations.
We'll travel around the quadrant, spending time on a starbase, in a runabout, at Cardassian border colonies of the DMZ, and even land on Prime for a bit again.
Everything here will make much more sense and be, imo, far more rewarding if you've read the series first. I'll point anyone interested in a TLDR to a few chapters that will ease curiosity about some of the setup and relationship building: Take Form For Me and Gleam chapters 3, 10, 12, and 14 should do the trick, plus chapters 5, 7, 8, then 11-14 of the fourth, Give Me Back the Stars. I also recommend reading Binding Sites if you want more context for Dax/Lintass (it's short).
