Hannah picked up a knife, but she never got to use it. Vernon moved faster than I could track, and wrenched her hand so hard she dropped the knife. It landed, blade-down, in the biscuit gravy. He twisted her arm up behind her back and pinned her head to the table. The sound she made was not a sound I’d ever heard from her before. She sounded like a wounded animal, fighting for life. Dale had me in the next heartbeat, both wrists in his one hand. My body thrashed and twisted, but his grip didn’t loosen. Suddenly I found my head mashed against the table as well.

Summary
This began as a one shot based on a tumblr post but I had so much interest in continuing, I decided to go for it in 2022
Only the first chapter is from 2020, when originally posted.
For the purposes of this fic, while the part where Spock accused Jim of cheating did happen, the distress signal from Vulcan did not, and there is no destruction of Vulcan or murder of Spock's mother here.
Jim arrives on the Enterprise for the first time as a crew member and clasps Spock in greeting, without thinking, and Spock responds that they are bonded.
