“Don’t ever do that again!” Murray hissed. “Don’t wander off. Don’t disappear on me. You get that? You— Christ! You scared the hell out of me, Alexei.”
Alexei flinched at his tone. Still he stepped closer, voice low. “You safe,” Alexei murmured. “I am safe. Look.” He pressed a palm to his own chest, then reached for Murray’s sleeve, taking his wrist. “Safe.”
Murray felt the contact ripple through him, warm like a wildfire. His eyes stung, breath punching out in short puffs. “No. No, you don’t—” He put his hands over his face, palms smearing up his glasses. “You don’t get it,” he switched to Russian. “If they’d grabbed you, if you’d…” He dropped his hands, finding Alexei’s eyes. “You can’t just be gone on me. I can’t—”
The words stuck in Murray’s throat, too big for the room.
Alexei’s fingers slipped from Murray’s wrist, bringing his hand into his. “Murray…” he whispered, the name thick with that Russian lilt. “Stay.”

“Obviously…?” he said, “Are you feeling alright? Did your mom make you try her D-I-Y coffee again?”

Summary
