Like, I know for certain if someone hurts you, you get hurt, I also know that if you do something that hurts you, it’s probably gonna hurt.

Summary
Nobody knows the entirety of what they stand to lose, until they’re reeling from the loss. Tallying each thing that’s been taken as if it’s a morning prayer, and living by the doctrine of protecting what remains, as they add another strike to that mental list that grows by the day. Granted, some losses feel insignificant, compared to the ones that feel as if the world was destroyed all over again, thousands of times again each time the deceased’s name is mentioned, or someone smiles too similarly to a once-beloved corpse, each day made worse by someone’s absence, but the little things? Like going on walks unarmed, and unscarred from the threat of death, in memory of all the time he’d spend in the forest by his house as a child: playing pretend and poking at mushrooms growing through decaying bark. Back when an obliviousness to his surroundings he was once allowed, accompanied by that ample peace that extended the whole world as long as he was with his father; but all of that shattered in the matter of a single night, because his father was gone the night the world ended, and maybe that made it all just a bit more painful; as he watched everything collapse.

Angel gave up redemption, the hotel, and everything he had been working towards. He is given an hour of peace, then its right back into the grind. Only this time he has no where to go home to besides the studio.
Except, things are different this time. After Vox's attack on heaven and the devastation of hell, everyone left working for the Vees are unsure what to do. And the ones contracted to them are terrified of what will happen to them. It was rare for anyone to work for the Vees for longer than a few years. A handful made it to a decade before they were thrown out or, in recent times, killed outright.
This makes Angel Dust different. To survive the power shift, eyes fall to him for guidence. And Angel isn't able to sucumb to apathy. He has no choice but to help.

Her mouth is full of something. She swallows, unthinking, but it gradually fills up again. It takes her a few tries to realize it is blood. Her right eye is gushing blood.
Her mom is on the floor in the kitchen. Ragatha stares at her. Her mom’s face is scalded, brilliant red, and portions of it are already bubbling up with blisters. The jamming pot is dented on the floor, the glass jars smashed across the kitchen tile. The gas stove burns merrily away. A shard the length of Ragatha’s pinky finger protrudes from her mom’s throat. She is unmoving. She looks a little like a mannequin.
My mom is dead, Ragatha thinks, vaguely. It is not particularly believable. My mom is waiting, she thinks, and that seems more fitting.
Ragatha loses an eye. She has a couple of bigger problems.

Determined to live a full and exciting life, he decides to keep working towards making the inpherno a bit of a brighter place, knowing full well of its limitations and need for growth. Oh, and also start an ARG and be a little shit, of course.
(This is a complete remake of an older fic, with a new plot and more focus on where we actually wanted to put focus on! This fic within a seperate continuity with only a little bit of carry-over, so there's no need to read the original!)
