To make the characters work within the context of this story, timelines and events from the real world have been altered. Most significantly concerning the Ghouls. Joining dates for the band, their appearences, backstories and behaviours are not modelled on reality. This is as much for creative licence as it is respecting the anonymity of the Ghouls as was once sacred.

Editing the summary because it didn't exactly explain what this is about. I wanted a story that considers if Christine's melancholia and fainting may be medical and takes seriously her belief in the supernatural as situated in real belief systems. Three months after the events of the opera, she and Raoul are caught in a criminal ransom scheme in Maderia, falling at the intersection of the collapse of the whaling industry and the "Great Game" of imperialism. Their rescue strands them in the wilderness, along with a family of strangers. The story is nonlinear and contains a lot of backstories, especially for Erik and Daroga. The story also retraces the events at the opera, transposing the angel of music story with a more ritual magik based view of angels. What if the angel of music was also the a real, ceremonial invocation?
Canon divergent backstory, slightly. Racial themes.
