The Demo-Dogs snarled loudly, the spit flying out and spraying her in the face, she raised her oar to hit it across the face, to deflect a swipe.A whistle cut through the panicked air, loud and crisp among the noise of gasping breaths. The hair on her neck stood up on end, because this wasn't a monster. This was distinctly human. And suddenly having a human here with them felt more sinister than a monster.
