Summary
It's a simple proposition: Agatha Harkness, heir to a small branch of the old but faded Salemite coven, will be handfasted for two years and two months to Rio Vidal, heir to the noble First Coven. Hopefully in that time the two will produce at least one child to be heir to both covens, and when the time has passed, they can choose to remain together or part and co-parent. If and when their child outlives them, Agatha's coven—like many before—will be absorbed into the First and the child will be the leader of the most powerful and ancient coven in the world.
Of course, thanks to her mother, Agatha has little say in the matter, but she comforts herself with knowing the handfast will be short in duration. Once she meets her intended, however, she begins to have thoughts of a more permanent nature.

Yelena blinks a few times, the question getting a little lost in her head. She looks down just as Kate glances up with a curious look in her eyes. “What do you mean?”
Kate shrugs, her hand reaching up to twirl around a bit of Yelena’s hair. “You just mentioned you did it for like…a new phase in your life. I thought maybe you were wanting a change again.”
It’s not something she’s considered, but she supposes Kate is right - this is another different stage in her life. She’s more content. She’s in a very serious relationship that she truly thinks is going to be forever. But she’s also an Avenger and has been pretty comfortable the last few months.
Perhaps that is why she’s felt so easily aggravated by these little inconveniences. She has this life now, one she never imagined for herself, and some part of her keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop.
