She avoids her in meetings, keeps conversations painfully brief, and always seems to find a reason to leave the room first. They’re polite on paper, distant in practice, and Agatha has long since accepted that whatever she did to earn Rio’s dislike, she’ll probably never know.
A mandatory company retreat in Northen Europe removes every convenient escape route. With nowhere to disappear, Rio’s careful distance becomes impossible to maintain, and Agatha is left to navigate the discomfort of forced proximity.
As much as she dreads every glare Rio sends her way, she refuses to back out.
Even if it means she has to share a room with her in the company cabin.

It's a simple proposition: Agatha Harkness, heir to a small branch of the old but faded Salemite coven, will be handfasted for two years and two months to Rio Vidal, heir to the noble First Coven. Hopefully in that time the two will produce at least one child to be heir to both covens, and when the time has passed, they can choose to remain together or part and co-parent. If and when their child outlives them, Agatha's coven—like many before—will be absorbed into the First and the child will be the leader of the most powerful and ancient coven in the world.
Of course, thanks to her mother, Agatha has little say in the matter, but she comforts herself with knowing the handfast will be short in duration. Once she meets her intended, however, she begins to have thoughts of a more permanent nature.
