Summary

Help.
The word sent a spike of adrenaline through me so sharp it sliced my insides to shreds. All heroes said they wanted to help, but they never actually did. Help translated into sending me back in the name of being a savior, but it was not saving me. It was killing me.

The hero stopped a few feet away from me, her bare hand reaching out like we were in The Creation of Adam. I lurched backwards and she immediately halted.
“Please don’t,” I whispered, pulling my arms up to my chest as if to shield from her advances. The hero looked confused, a frown on her face beneath the red mask.
“I just want to help you,” she said, the earnest expression on her face making me wary. “Please, let me take you home.”

Her brows raised. “But I know you do, Nell. I know your father – I’ve worked with your father.”
