Mermin, first of all, is extremely old, now obsolete terminology for creatures currently called merfolk (inclusive of mermaids and mermen).
It is specifically used for the half fish, half human looking creature that uses their singing as bait.On this coast, the term has survived the years.
It is, in fact, still used by the paranoid people of Hermit Harbour to refer to this specific myth of theirs.
Although they never as much utter a word about the beings, it is the most notable myth in town.

Summary
Mermaids have not been seen by humans for centuries. And yet, an injured Mermaid is rescued from an illegal dolphin fishing boat, too injured to release back to the ocean. Researchers set out to study this rare and elusive spices. But soon after, another one is found tearing through human boats and causing damage to anything in its path. For the safety of both the mermaid and humans in the area, this second one is also brought into the facility.
With an unknown number of specimens in the wild. Researchers start to wonder if the two can be bred in captivity.

This is literally just a chat fic for BioShock. The three main protagonists, + their three companions, + three other important to the plot characters (Tenenbaum for 1, Eleanor for 2, Daisy for Infinite, because I couldn't leave them out) are all in a group chat. They all work for the same company, BioShock Inc. Science still happens, there is fighting, not everyone is happy, but it's all meant to be silly, at the end of the day.
This is purely self-indulgent, anyone who doesn't have my particular set of brainworms about this series probably won't enjoy it, or will find it weird. Yes, this does have plot.
I wrote this mostly because I was bored and depressed & thinking about silly chat-based interactions is often easier than actually sitting down and writing. I'm not giving up on my TF2 fics, I'm just trying to survive a bout of depression & writer's block that has been kicking my arse since December.
