Ryland Grace has had a weird couple of years, but somehow, picking up a stray astronaut from Mars on his way home to Earth after a failed suicide mission winds up being MUCH weirder than the genuine space alien that’s hitching a ride with the two of them. But getting home was the easy part, escaping government detainment to rescue his new alien friend is shaking out to be much more difficult. Can he really trust the very same people who sent him into space to die against his will to help him get out of this mess? I guess we’ll find out!

Due to a error with the sedative, Ryland Grace is not put into his medically induced coma early, he is instead sedated and wakes up in a blank room with no windows with guards at the only exit.
To Eva Stratt and everyone else, his unplanned consciousness doesn't matter, the mission will continue as planned, with a few more bumps than they had originally planned for.
To Ryland Grace, it meant everything. To him, he has three days to convince them not to send him into space, he had three days to tug at their heartstrings and reaffirm just how worthy he was to be kept alive.

Grace buries his head deeper into the crook of his elbow, desperate to get a few more minutes of sleep, the movement elicits the noise of giggling from the room around him. His brain doesn’t register anything strange about the sound, until he remembers that he’s supposed to be in the middle of space. Space, where Grace should be completely alone, and Rocky should be well on his way back to Erid.
He jolts upright, suddenly far more awake. The quiet giggling erupts into full blown laughter, and Grace suddenly realises that he’s in his classroom, and the students laughing at him are the same ones he last taught fifteen years ago.
Son of a biscuit.
He’s on Earth again.
