After the Hail Mary launches, the team erupts into celebratory cheers. Despite the gravity of the mission, it is a relief that months and months of work have finally culminated in a successful launch. Whether it will be a successful mission, they do not know, and they will not know for years to come. For now there is nothing to do but cheer and make plans for drinks, a bit of welcome levity in the non-stop stress of an incoming apocalypse.

And now, there were two distant blips of Petrova-light, picked up by the Deep Space Network, hurtling home. Two probes, braking hard as they hurtled toward Earth holding the secrets to its salvation. They were late, or at least, not very early, but they were here.
Grace may have made his peace with dying to save Rocky, but Rocky insists they return to Earth.
