Summary
Tony Stark and James Barnes don't get along. Maybe it was the whole "Hey, I killed your parents " thing, or the "I was once a villainous murderer" thing. Either way, they don't work together for sanity's sake. Not until now. Manhattan is under invasion, and differences must be put aside. Nothing goes to plan; Iron Man is down, and Tony's lungs are damaged by smoke inhalation. James, too, isn't in good shape, maybe because Tony stabbed him, maybe because something is very wrong with his prosthetic arm. Probably both.
They must traverse the city turned warzone to try to reach their fellow Avengers, but between them and help are traps, bombs, and teams of soldiers that herd further and further from help. Survival pushes the pair together, and slowly the walls between them break down, and trust grows. Tony starts to see beyond the past, to the fragile human behind the legend of the Winter Soldier.
Their bad day has turned into a bad week when they are taken captive by the enemy. An enemy whose plan is far more diabolical than any of them could have imagined. Now, they only have each other. What horrible fate is planned for them, and how will they survive? More importantly, how will they escape?

The two were like oil and water, caught in a constant cat-and-dog hunt driven to eliminate each other, but Fleur fell under his spell, with different feelings messing with her head and moving her to play for the opposite team. On that fine line between betrayal and rationalism, there was no denying that the captain had a charm, even if his evilness and manipulation shaped him completely. Would it be such an easy task for MacTavish to conquer and destroy Meadow's humble heart?

Things going awry was also pretty standard on a Specter mission; this is the fastest it's blown up in their faces in a while. And when all four of Kallus' backup plans fell short, they resorted to splitting between fighting and loading, sending the less sure to load the supplies and the seasoned fighters to try and block off the attack.
It happened so fast that Zeb didn’t have a chance to think. One moment, Kallus was moving with the grace of a skilled combat warrior, taking down imperials left and right, and the next thing he saw was someone throw a grenade in his direction, the sound of a rebel screaming “LIVE GRANADE!” catching everyone’s attention, but catching Kal’s a fraction too late.
