“One more thing,” Ilya says. He removes his hand from Shane’s face to pull something out of the pocket of his shorts. It’s an eye mask, one of those ones that people use on planes to block out the light so they can sleep. Ilya must have brought it with him, or maybe he had bought in the airport. “I want you to wear this. Your mind, it always goes so fast, lyubimiy. I thought this might help you focus only on what I want you to feel, hmm?”
Shane swallows, a little nervous at the prospect of not being able to see what's happening, but he lets Ilya put the blindfold on him, taking away his sight apart from a thin sliver of light at the bottom of his vision. He shuts his eyes tightly, so that even that little bit of light is gone. Without his sight, all Shane knows is the gentle pressure of the mask on his face, the rigidity of the bar squeezed between his fingers, the steady weight of Ilya’s hand on his jaw. Everything else outside of that falls away, until all he can focus on is Ilya, on the steady weight of his hand on his jaw. Nothing else exists, nothing important anyway.
