Mike and Will are thrown together in the stillness, rebuilding the town, staying in the same house, dealing with what they never said. Will meets football player Chance while working on cleaning the wreckage of the school together.

Will Byers is the top student at Hawkins High, perfect grades and is trying to get through his senior year of high school to graduate as valedictorian and go to Yale. However Joyce is convinced attending a prestigious private school will give him a better shot at getting to where he wants. Will is scared to have such a sudden big change of environment, he isn't prepared for just how competitive the place is...or how he'll make an enemy on his first day.
How could his presence cause someone such irritation?
That someone being Mike Wheeler.
Mike felt it was his duty from day one to make Will's life a living hell, to let him know that he is nothing. Mike is just better than him. He'll always win.
Will wanted and urged himself to stay away from him, but there was something about him that sparked curiosity within him.
