Will nodded, hitting his pencil anxiously against the paper, his confidence hanging by a thread, “Take it off.”Mike listened.
Mike pulled the fading blue shirt over his head, and even though he asked for this, for everything that’s happened up until this moment, Will stared at a crinkling poster on the wall. As if looking would be the point of no return; the one thing that’d make this entire night real.

(I'll also post CracCora (Cracker x Corazón) content. For some reason, I find it very funny to imagine a troubled romance between these two. They fit well into a dynamic that I really like, something like "I don't love you, I'm using you to forget him" X "I know, and I'm going to devour every bit of you to see what he lost").
(And Crocodile x Rosinante content).
This is the first time I'm publishing anything here on Ao3, even though I've been using this wonderful site for years.

Summary
In Mike's letters there would be markings through words, sometimes even whole sentences. He would read his words over and over. Stay up for hours at a time, losing sleep trying to recover what was under it. The scribbled ink taunting him, laughing at him. Like there was a part of Mike he still didn't know, hiding just underneath a cheap blue pen. Did Mike do this on purpose? Did he want him to decipher the scratchy ink or was it lost forever? What if Mike was just lazy and didn't want to start over? What if it meant nothing at all?
It didn't stop Will from doing the same, anytime he felt nervous about something he said- something that may be too far for friends to say, he would mark through it. Hoping that one day Mike would grow curious as well, that he would uncover his feelings.
Then about six months after the move, he started signing them with-
Love, Mike.
The party is now broken. All navigating through the damage left behind by the mindflayer.
Confusing letters to late night phone calls, with two thousand miles between them. Until a road trip after graduation changes everything.
