Summary
Season 5 of Stranger things was supposed to be about saving Hawkins.
Instead it becomes about losing Will Byers.
Sleep doesn’t feel like sleep anymore. Time slips. Voices follow him into the quiet. And in the dark, there is someone waiting, patient, understanding, and far too familiar.
The worst part is not that something is wrong.
It’s that Will isn’t sure he wants it to stop.

Her breath stuttered in her chest. Four years. He'd held those words on his lips and in his heart for four years, refusing to tell her goodbye.
She had feared bitterness from him, or anger, or something, anything, that would come between them, because something always came between them, didn't it?
But in those simple words, he had cut through every fear, every obstacle. It was as if he'd stepped through space and time and impossible heartbreak to say, I'm still here. I've been waiting. I've never stopped loving you.
He worried his lip, and his eyes were vulnerable as he waited for her to say something back. He looked like she could cut him down with just one word, and what's worse, he looked like he expected her to.
She couldn't bear for him to expect that. Not one moment longer.

It no longer mattered to Will was how Mike wanted him because this was enough. This right here: Mike standing in front of him, breathing and alive, smiling like an idiot who truly couldn’t believe what Will had just done. He knew his feelings now. He knew himself. He knew Mike was one of the most important people in his life. Mike wasn’t, and never would be, his Tammy.
Even if Mike didn’t feel that way.

"We need to talk," Lucas says quietly, breaking the silence after a long moment. He looks at Mike, his expression unreadable. "About what we saw. And what that thing knew."
Nancy meets Mike's eyes in the rear-view mirror. Her gaze is hard, questioning. Distrustful.
"Woah, woah!" Mike throws his hands up, nearly hitting Will as he recoils from their accusatory stares. The guilt is still burning in his chest, but defensiveness is a quicker shield. "Guys, I don't know what he was talking about! I thought the shadow was all in my head and lied about that, yes, but I'm not hiding anything else!"
OR: Mike's denial of his feelings for Will finally catches up to him as Vecna pulls out all the stops to ensure his plans come to fruition, hell-bent on disrupting the group's carefully maintained harmony.
Three weeks after Max's near-death and miraculous survival, the Party is unexpectedly dragged back into a world of nightmares. And this time, all of them getting out of this alive doesn't feel like it will be easy.

The lab tiles under her small hands shimmered like a mirage, warping at the edges as Dustin's consciousness bled into hers, his panic a wildfire scorching through neural pathways not built to hold them both. She couldn't feel anything but the absence where her powers had been—a phantom limb screaming for amputation.
Dustin's memories flickered like a failing projector. The church's shattered stained glass dissolved into the lab's flickering fluorescents, then back again, each transition razoring through El's synapses.
Then—impact.
The sonic weapon's frequency cut out so abruptly El's knees buckled from the whiplash of returning power. The sudden rush of it was worse than the deprivation: her telekinesis came roaring back like a severed artery finally unkinked, flooding her skull with pressure that made her scream. Or maybe that was Dustin. Their voices tangled in the shared space of his mind, indistinguishable as the psychic tether between them snapped with the violence of a bone breaking.
OR Dustin gets de-aged while stuck in the Upside down in Season 5.

Both of us (Jennifer and Beth) are bona fide fans who have seen prior seasons multiple times, and we had remarkably similar reactions to the fifth season, especially the series finale. He doesn’t have to look down to know he’s shaking like a leaf right now. How pathetic of him. What kind of husband can’t even kiss his wife on the lips? (her lovely lips) How he burns for the sensation, yet can hardly move a muscle.
Henry thinks himself the hero of this story, but really it’s all just a mask, like how his current angelic form is a clever ruse to hide the true rotting carcass underneath.
Or: Henry Creel wants to kiss his wife, but such a tender gesture is far from simple. Perhaps even the most unlikely of allies can help him on his quest.
