“Welcome to the Fire Nation,” I say flatly. “I suppose this will be your new home. Though I wouldn’t get comfortable if I were you. I am not interested in concubines at the moment.”
Gasps echo down the line. Hands fly to mouths. The sound scraping against my nerves.
I move on. “You will be confined to the palace walls. Guarded by eunuchs wherever you go.”
Then I add a bite to my tone. “And should I hear any trouble… There will be severe punishment.”
The words taste like ash. They sound like him. I force myself to meet their eyes so they know I mean it. “This will be a harem in appearance only. I am far too-”
And then I see her. The words die.
Her gown is the colour of pine, patterned in threads of gold. It clings, then falls, loose trousers underneath. A jade pin glints in her black hair. My mouth goes dry. Jin.
The girl I remember as sweet and soft and has been carved into something sharp. Her cheekbones hollower; her jaw an elegant line. Her eyes, distrusting and yet familiar and dark green, catch mine and widen. Surprise flickers across her face, turning to recognition, then something else. Her lips part.
And I almost imagine the whisper of a name I hadn't heard in years. 'Lee?' -

Summary
Water. Earth. Fire. Air. These are the four elements. They live in harmony with one another, but that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatars, masters of all four elements, can restore balance to the world. But when the world needed them most, they vanished. Where there was once harmony, there is only despair and fear. Kaida and Aang never wanted to be the destined Avatars, and when their supposed destiny was thrust forcefully upon them, they ran away, not ready to face that responsibility. However, when they realize that embracing their destiny will reunite the elements, they push themselves to the limit to restore peace and bring back the balance they once had.

100 years ago, Fire Lord Sozin lead the Fire Nation into war against the other three nations, completely wiping the Air Nomads off the map and turning his sights to the Water Tribes and the Earth Kingdom. The Avatar, the sole person responsible for the peace of the world, vanished around this time and hasn't been seen since, and many have begun to lose hope that he even still exists.
Aang was never the Avatar. His twin sister, Anya, was saved at birth because she was the Avatar's next incarnation. Now, a hundred years have passed and as the last Airbender, it's his jobs to teach the current Avatar airbending...whoever that may be.
For three years, Zuko has searched for the Avatar at the behest of his father, along with the promise to have his honor returned to him. Desperate, Zuko has put every once of his being into this search, and now his luck seems to be turning around. An airbender - the last in the entire world - has been sighted in the Southern Water Tribe, and Zuko just knows that he knows where the Avatar is - if the nomad isn't the Avatar himself.
Yet he keeps insisting he's not. So if he's not the Avatar, then who is? And what is going on with these damn dreams?

Since the end of Hundred Years War seven years ago, Fire Lord Zuko has been isolated in the Fire Palace, fending off assassinations and mending the Fire Nation and its burnt bridges, all while putting off the Fire Sages' demands that he take a wife. When Iroh finally finds him a match, he reluctantly agrees to the marriage, with the expectation of never speaking to her again and sending her off to Ember Island.
It proves to be more difficult than he expects though, when he realizes that his new wife is as stubborn as a dragon moose.
