Someone new moved to Smallville, in the house on the other side of the Kent farm.
Clark meets the new kid, Bruce Wayne, and his first impression isn't great. He thinks that Bruce is spoiled and rude and out of place. Maybe that's why he blows up at him. But he still saves him when he's in trouble, that's just the kind of person that Clark is.
After a while they develop a tentative kind of friendship over the summer. Bruce isn't like anyone else that Clark knows, and he feels connected to him in all of his out of place-ness.
His own feelings for the other take him by surprise, he only hopes that he can stomp them down before he ruins their friendship over them.

Clark and Lex have the same problem, they're desperate for something just out of reach. For Lex is something money can't buy. For Clark it's something family and friends can't provide. But when they're together, that pain eases.
This is a Clex fanfic based on Smallville, in light of the first three seasons. I wasn't able to watch past Season 3 because I was heartbroken that Clark didn't tell Lex the truth and let him be taken away by the Asylum, leaving him to think he's crazy. At that point I started this fan fiction to explore their friendship and dynamic and all the possibilities that I didn't think the show would ever explore, while still staying true to their personalities.

“But if you ever grab my ass again,” she hissed, gaze unwavering from his in the most predatory look he’d ever seen on a person, “I will be taking your head with me when I go.”
She took a step back and smiled at him “Okay?”
He opened his mouth to reply, but was lost for words. Satisfied with his response, or lack thereof, she twirled around to walk away, leaving him gawking— chastised, threatened, and comforted— after her, and Chloe giggling to herself behind him.

Her cool hand on his bare back jolts him awake. Lois is sitting on the coffee table with one of his dad’s six packs from the barn fridge next to her. He looks at her through squinted eyes. The clock on the VCR tells him that it's 1:38 in the morning. Before he can ask any questions she drops a pair of jeans and a t-shirt on his legs and tells him to get dressed.
Never in a million years would he think of sneaking out in the middle of the night. Never in a million years did he think he’d meet someone like Lois Lane.
It’s when they get to the Kent Farm gate that she slides over so he can drive. She hisses at him to turn the lights off because they (re: he) didn’t just push the clunker all that way just to get caught. With a hidden eye roll, he doesn’t turn them on until they're a few dozen yards down the road.
It’s when they hit the stop sign he finally asks, “Lois, where am I going?”
“Someplace quiet,” is all she says.
