The knife glides smoothly into the third intercostal space. Clark watches it slice through muscle and pleura. The blade disappears before Clark can even register the wet sound of blood on metal, and the stench of iron suffuses the air, clinging to Clark’s nostrils. He can hear the slick trickle of blood leaking from capillaries, the halting beat of a heart struggling to pump.
“Bruce,” Clark gasps. “Oh, God. Hold on.”

Summary
Superman is hope personified. He is light and smiles and the sun after a storm - the people trust him. He knows this. He knows it when he is Clark Kent, average reporter, and he knows it when he is Kal El, the man of steal. Soon he is approached by his fellow heroes, one year into his crusade as the Man of Steel, to join a new group for Earth's defense. The Justice League.
He gets along with Wonder Woman and the Flash and Green Lantern and all the other new heroes, but Batman proves to be a challenge. The hero from Gotham is cryptid, gruff, and if Clark weren't raised with manners, he'd even say a pain in the ass.
However, as the years pass, things change. There are the occasional moments where Clark is able to drop his Superman smile and simply *be*. What do all these moments have in common? Batman (Bruce, as he comes to know him). Superman, for once, is able to exist in the in between of ideals, masks, and lies to find true friendship. And when friendship is no longer a word enough to describe what the two of them share - well that's when things get tricky.

The Kryptonian felt eyes on him, it was hard not to when it felt like his every move was being watched right now. He looked up to meet Bruce’s eyes, and gave him a questioning look. “When was the last time you slept?” It was an absurd question to hear from his lover, seeing as the man he was dating was The Batman. The Batman who had a notoriously bad sleep schedule. If he didn’t feel so terrible right now, he would’ve giggled at the hypocrisy.
“Uhm… A few days maybe? Today’s Friday so… five…. No, six..” He mumbled out.
“You have to take care of yourself, Clark.”
“I don’t need sleep, I’m fine.”
Bruce snorted out a laugh, “Believe me, I know you don’t need sleep. But you look exhausted. Come on, let’s go to bed.” He began to get up, assuming the other man would follow after him, but paused when Clark didn’t even make an effort to get off the couch.
“I can’t.”

Clark Kent is struggling to sleep because he can’t stop performing his Superman duties. Luckily, Bruce is there to pull him back to reality.

Anyways, this fic was inspired by that fic that I read about 10 times in high school.Lois spends thanksgiving with Clarks family after recently finding out that he is Superman! His family and friends assume they are dating, and they end up accidentally rolling with it. Will this miscommunication allow them to express their feelings?
