(These days, he doesn’t even try to sleep. He already came to terms with the fact that no amount of aromatherapy, hot showers, calm music, or herbal teas will do. He lays on top of the covers, with the cold biting his toes, and just stares at the ceiling. Some nights, like tonight, he imagines the ceiling tearing apart, letting him see the starry night. He imagines himself floating up like a feather, flying through the sky, touching the clouds, and then the stars, and then lighting up in flames from being too close to the sun.
But he is in bed, he’s earthbound, he’s not light enough to fly. The shadow keeps reminding him of this fact; not like he ever forgets. And, instead of floating, he imagines being friends with the shadow version of him. It doesn’t seem like a very good friend, it’s mean.
He tosses and turns, and closes his eyes hoping he didn’t have to see those weird shapes under his eyelids.)
