Enjin reached out to grab Zanka, to get him away. He had to at least save the boy who had given everything to surpass all his expectations. The potential hidden within him was worth any price.
But Zanka wanted to save the other as well. He preferred to put himself in danger if it meant that the older cleaner would come out of this uninjured. He owed him at least that much after everything Enjin did for him.

Ratio switched on the hair dryer, getting to work on drying the damp strands. The heat felt lovely on Aventurine’s head, and he couldn’t stop his eyes from drooping.
“When was the last time you slept, Gambler?” Ratio interjected suddenly.
“Not sure,” Aventurine said tiredly, unwilling to change his voice at this point. Ratio always saw through his façades. “Three days, maybe?” He had a feeling Ratio would put it together.
Sure enough, he did. Always the scholar. “Since it started raining,” Ratio murmured, hands stilling briefly before continuing their careful work. “Does the rain trigger something?”
Aventurine leaned further back against the couch. “I used to love the rain, as a kid,” he started, feeling the sting of unshed tears again. “It signified good luck on my planet. I was actually born in the rain, which made me a blessed child.”
Or, it's been raining on Pier Point for a few days now. Aventurine's memories of his family and his past are triggered, and he goes to the one person he knows can help him.
