They never expected the answer would haunt them.
When District 7 votes in the Briar twins, Asher and Willow are sent into a living forest that changes with the seasons and devours the weak. One twin fights with fury. The other survives by kindness. Neither is willing to become what the Capitol demands.
As the arena turns beautiful and brutal, the Games spiral toward a moment the Capitol cannot control and cannot erase.

The child is small, pale porcelain skin, deep sky-blue eyes and hair like gold. She looks like a doll, something breakable, Finnick's stomach twists as he eyes the girl. Still he manages a charming smile, "So your Primrose Everdeen?"
The child blinks and quickly adjusts, her bright smile becoming a mocking, overcompensating grin. He forces himself not to flinch at the sight, it's wrong to see his own smile reflected back at him. The girl eyes are tired. Too tired for any twelve-year-old had the right to be.
"They say I'm the next Finnick Odair, you know?"
Her voice is teasing, and she laughed. Finnick laughs too, bitter and hallow, he settled a hand on the girl's shoulder and squeezed. "That's exactly what we are afraid of."
