Summary
'Of course, some would say it's because he's a Victor, but that's not true. People in District 12 think that Haymitch Abernathy - our other living Victor - drinks too much, but they don't despise him like they do Gale.
It is because Gale Hawthorne - my best friend, my hunting partner, the boy who strains to keep me alive - killed his district partner in the Game.'Or - Gale goes to the Arena, and Katniss and Peeta never does, but they end up together, anyway. Some things are different, yes, and some things maybe darker for it - but the important things, like Katniss and Peeta and Haymitch... they are the same.

Summary
-One of us has to win this thing.
-Why's that? -Haymitch whispers.
-One of us has to be the worst victor in history. Tear up their scripts, tear down their celebrations, set fire to the Victor's Village. Refuse to play their game.
-Make sure they don't use our blood to paint their posters?
-Exactly. We'll paint our own posters. And I know just where we can get the paint. -In a gesture used back in the schoolyard, she extends her pinkie. -Swear it.
-One of us paints the posters. -He encircles it with his own, and their pinkies lock tight.
Back then, they didn't know how that same promise would be what kept them going every time they needed strength to stay alive.
Before Katniss and Peeta, there were Maysilee Donner -the most stuck-up girl in town- and Haymitch Abernathy -a charming, naughty rascal.

Summary
After his Games, Haymitch returns to District 12 to face the consequences. Guilt, grief, and propaganda all strip away his already fading memory. How can someone remember something they have forgotten? How can erosion of a memory make something previously untrue now true?
This is a canon divergent re-imagining of the ending of SOTR to emphasize control of information, public perception, and compliant behavior, beginning at the District 12 train station.

Summary
In the aftermath of the 50th Hunger Games, Effie Trinket and Haymitch Abernathy find themselves bound by duty—and by a fragile and unlikely companionship. Over the course of twenty-five years, through Capitol parties and District struggles, shared secrets and quiet moments, their guarded walls begin to crumble. What starts as reluctant tolerance slowly grows into something neither of them expected: friendship, trust, and finally, love. This is the story of how two very different souls find home in each other, one year at a time.

Summary
This scene takes place between the 51st and 54th Hunger Games.
—
In the months following Effie’s official assignment to District 12, there was never really a choice. Let’s be honest — turning down a position with the Hunger Games a third time would’ve placed not only her, but her sister, in serious danger.
A year after Haymitch’s victory, a new Reaping looms. The grief still clings to him — sharp-edged, unyielding — but his new companion seems determined to make things slightly less unbearable. Or at least, to try. Effie was good at keeping her promises. So Haymitch held onto them like a lifeline — the only one he had left.

Summary
You could get away with this sort of thing if you were careful about it, discrete enough, or wealthy enough to throw money in the right direction. His family did well enough, but didn't have the funds to waste on a scandal. And it wouldn't even be the sort of scandal that would make him look dangerous or intriguing. He'd stand out in all the wrong ways.
