Editing the summary because it didn't exactly explain what this is about. I wanted a story that considers if Christine's melancholia and fainting may be medical and takes seriously her belief in the supernatural as situated in real belief systems. Three months after the events of the opera, she and Raoul are caught in a criminal ransom scheme in Maderia, falling at the intersection of the collapse of the whaling industry and the "Great Game" of imperialism. Their rescue strands them in the wilderness, along with a family of strangers. The story is nonlinear and contains a lot of backstories, especially for Erik and Daroga. The story also retraces the events at the opera, transposing the angel of music story with a more ritual magic based view of angels. What if the angel of music was also the a real, ceremonial invocation?
Canon divergent backstory, slightly. Racial themes.

This is intended both as a crossover fic and partially as a fix fic following Chapter 232 without decanonizing it, using a character I loved and had an arc that finished in Fire Punch but which I feel has even more potential for exploration and growth.
