Alastor couldn’t believe he was back in the living world. By all means, he shouldn’t be back in the living world. Hellborn demons and heavenborn angels were occasionally permitted to enter the living world for business, but there were many strict requirements they had to meet first. But sinners and winners? They weren’t allowed to. Their time on earth was over, and they were either being rewarded by a lavish life in Heaven or punished by damnation in Hell.
Under special circumstances, a sinner could re-enter the human world, but only while being accompanied by Lucifer himself. Lucifer wasn’t here—thank goodness, because that man saps the fun out of everything—so Alastor knew he was possibly the very first sinner to do this without the King of Hell’s physical presence. What an ego booster.
But all thoughts of his ego were pushed out of his mind as he heard a twig snap in the distance. His prey was on the run and he had to catch it if he wanted to secure dinner tonight.
