Orion Pax had been hurrying out of the Archive and back to his dock for his shift when an ancient artifact, propulsed by the explosion of Sentinel Prime (with a little too much speed to be completely believable, but then again, the Matrix of Leadership was known to do strange things to fundamental physics on occasion), sailed it's way from the Primal Palace Entrance and directly into his chestplates.
Primus, it seemed, had seen a chance to get a new, better Prime to serve his children in the explosive assassination of his unchosen Prime. There was Civil War to avert, and nothing short of the most optimal Prime would do.
The Matrix was a mysterious artifact for a reason. It also never was as powerful as when the very fate of Cybertron hung in the balance. Poised on the edge of the destruction of Cybertronian Civilisation, as it was then, as it had been back during the Quintesson Invasion, the Vessel of Primus could do miracles.

Prime moves swiftly, with purpose—lifting, shifting, tossing debris aside as though it weighs nothing. His steps are careful but unrelenting, the ground shaking just slightly under each one. The tremor of the rubble vibrates through Starscream and it feels like knives being jabbed into his wires.
Of course Optimus Prime would show up. Of course he'd come for one of his own.
He can't even delegate this to someone else. Optimus Prime is too noble, too compassionate, too honorable to not put his own life on the line for his underlings.
Megatron would laugh at the very notion.

He'd replayed the file so many times that each klik was engraved in his processor. Each small crease of Dee's faceplate, the way his eyes had widened in fear, a cry of "why would you do that, why?" echoing hopelessly as a surge of pain offlined his optics, processor reeling.
He wasn't sure what he was looking for. A sign, maybe, that Dee had cared. That he'd felt the same way Orion did, afraid, that he wasn't gone. That he hadn't died with Sentinel, ripped in two and left to degrade in the square.
Or maybe he was searching for that familiar face next to him, illuminating the cracks and crevices of mines long abandoned.
Regardless, darkness had settled over Iacon.
Orion Pax hated the dark.
TL;DR: Sometimes the greatest act of devotion is letting go.
