Eyes. Golden, glowing in the darkness. Like a lighthouse. Like the moon. Like something I have never seen but have been searching for all along.
Name. A spiral, three and a half turns, a branch at every curve. I cannot write it, cannot read it, but I understand it. It says: I am who I am. I come from what I came from. I return to what I return to.
Loneliness. You said: You. Me. Same. Alone. When you said same, your scales turned my colour. Deep blue, the colour of my coat. The colour of the Chesapeake Bay at night.
Light. Bach’s Cello Suite, D major. Your scales shifted from blue-green to gold, from gold to amber, from amber to white. White light, bright, like the sun. You were glowing. You were glowing with your whole body. You were saying: I am here.
