Summary
Five years ago, on a blood-soaked battlefield, Hermione Granger nearly died. She survived, but a severe head injury wiped away almost every memory of her seven years at Hogwarts. Now, she is strictly forbidden from using magic; even a simple spell could trigger a surge that would destroy her fragile mind.
To the rest of the world, she is just the quiet owner of *Bell & Binding*, a small bookshop in Muggle London. She has no idea that the world she left behind is still watching her.
Draco Malfoy is an Auror working a job he chose. The Ministry assigns him to be a "civilian contact". His mission is to watch Hermione and keep her safe until the Ministry can figure out how to pull the secrets out of her fractured memories.
But the life they had rebuilt started to fall apart when the Carrow siblings surfaced, hunting for a "Time-Anchor" hidden somewhere in her memory. As the past begins to catch up with them, Draco realizes that forgetting the war was easy; the hard part will be Hermione realizing that her new life is built on his deception.

It turns out that being wired into giant war machines doesn’t play nice with human brains. The Earth Mechanical Defense Force, or EMDF, learned that the hard way when their pilots started going… neurotic, let’s say, after a few missions.
The obvious solution to that problem was to simply wire the pilot into their mecha permanently, that way their mind wasn’t being strained by the constant in and out. Unfortunately that strategy backfired and the pilots started going neurotic much, much faster, and this time they were giant and made of metal and much harder to put down.
So, the obvious next step would be to pull the plug on that idea and go back to the drawing board, right? No, that’s ridiculous, the next step was obviously to simply…
Make the mecha forget they’d ever been human in the first place.
Somewhere along the line someone should have pulled the plug, but they’d already invested so much into the project, and you know what they say about sunk cost fallacy.

It’s quite cruel how violently life changed after the Battle of Hogwarts. The murders of Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore meant the Wizarding World was left vulnerable against the Dark Lord’s command. He quickly took power, like any tyrannical ruler might, slaughtering all souls unwilling to swear allegiance. Though there were cowards among the fallen, those of us who surrendered for the sake of survival. We few were special to the Dark Lord, meant to be entertainment for him and his loyalists. Entertainment crafted by the mundane, he’d taunted. Our existence had been diminished within a matter of moments, lessened by just a few spoken words. Summary
A chain of unexpected events strands Pomni and Gummigoo. With no sign of immediate rescue, the two new friends set out to find the circus themselves, briefly stopping in Gummigoo’s supposedly non-existent village. The stay ends up longer than anticipated.
It's just one part of a world crammed full of bank heists, saloon brawls, marshmallow six-shooters and dodgy mine hideouts, toffee trains, candied ocean liners and the occasional vicious gumdropbear, all dripping with literal sugarcoating that keeps the family-unfriendly implications around a PG rating. Most of the time.
Pomni is tempted by the freedom to redefine herself and escape Caine’s presumed railroaded adventures. For Gummigoo, the map is painfully familiar yet absolutely alien, raising questions that he and Pomni might not be able to really answer. As time passes, the friends find the map, themselves, and their relationship changing for better and possibly worse.
Unable to summon Pomni back, Caine insists to the rest of the Circus that long-term entrapment in an adventure won’t cause lasting harm to either program or its participants. It’s soon apparent that even the A.I. ringmaster cannot anticipate the consequences hurtling towards them.
