Everyone knows that daemons are a fact of life. Everyone is born with one, a physical manifestation of your soul that appears as an animal. For most, a daemon remains fluid, shifting from form to form throughout their youth until they settle as one thing during puberty.
Neil Josten’s daemon has never settled (and keeps changing into something... dead), and Andrew Minyard doesn't talk to his. As Neil begins his first year at Palmetto, it gets harder and harder to keep his soul in check, to remain the uninteresting Neil Josten.
