Over 50 years ago, a young girl died on the space colony ark. A gun shot to the chest, blood splattered on her blue dress, her bright eyes dimmed, her pale skin was becoming drained, her legs gave way. She collapses onto the metal floor. Watching as her little brother is crying leaves the ark on the escape pod. And then for her, a pain in her chest slowly fading, eyes growing heavy, difficult to breathe, feeling colder. A peaceful, long sleep awaited her at that moment. And yet, it didn’t, not the eternal one at least.
Everyone could still remember it. That cold, blistering Winter night. Snow fell softly, creating a white blanket on the Earth beneath their feet. The crunch it makes when you step into it. The silence the world made. Nothing echoed. Not even the collective gasps that everyone made when they saw her alive in Silver’s arms. Breathing normally. Blood was still on her chest but the wound was no more. She was in a deep sleep.

Over the past few months, Shadow has been dealing with some unwanted feelings towards his rival, Sonic. Shadow didn’t know how to deal with the situation, and he was not about to ask his best friend, Rouge, for dating advice. He couldn’t flirt for the life of him.
On a cloudy evening, Shadow was questioning himself on how to go about these uncomfortable feelings and looks to the sky above, silently wishing for Maria to still be here and help him through this, big sisters were supposed to do that, right? But as Shadow mourned over a certain blue hedgehog he has not even lost yet, a familiar face from fifty years ago has come back to give him much needed advice.
TLDR: Shadow is down bad for Sonic but sucks at feelings, he wished Maria was there to help him, boom Maria’s spirit is there to help him like the big sister she is
