Lizzie watches her father's body by carted away by the undertaker. He had finally succumbed to whatever sickness he had after weeks. Her wool navy blue dress did nothing to help warm her as she stands outside the bakery, watching the cart until she can't see it any longer. She wishes Joel was here to comfort her, but he was only ever around at night. She thought it quite weird, but it doesn't concern her too much.
It seemed the incompetent doctors were right. He didn't last more than a month. It seems they aren't as incompetent as she thought. Without her father—and without a will—she doesn't get to work at her family's bakery. Someone new would buy it, and she would be left in the streets with no income. No way to buy food. Nowhere to sleep.
She wraps her coat around herself, holding back her tears. She can't see the cart anymore, so she goes back in. The bakery was still hers for now. She climbs the stairs, shedding her coat and curling up in her bed. She felt like she was going to throw up.

What should’ve been two grueling weeks where the two should hold nothing but disdain or amusement for each other isn’t so. A chain reaction of events forces the two to work together for better and worse and ultimately changes the outcome of the whole group’s trials and tribulations.

The taller man bent his body over Kamimura's bed and scrunched his hands over one of his many blankets. The permafrost in the air nipped at the top of his bare arms like a thorned nettle vine. The warmness of the bed, of Kamimura's small amount of body heat, hugged his underarms.
