Summary
Tails has never thought about Sonic dying, he doesn't have to worry about that, he's never even seen the hedgehog bleed before. But after one day changes everything, dried blood sits at the centre of Sunset City and everyone's trying to convince him that an immortal soul has died.
Nobody wants to listen to him so maybe he'll just have to prove them wrong, prove to the world that Sonic the Hedgehog is still out there, despite what that jackal says.
But despite how much determination lives in him, how is one eight year old supposed to bring the dead to life at the centre of a raging war?
Or...
I'm rewriting Sonic Forces because I want to and "Sonic, help me!" is character assassination at an unacceptable degree.

Summary
Sonic and Tails are more than just best friends. They are brothers, and through every hardship that's been thrown at them, they've gotten through it together. But when Infinite's attack leads to Sonic's imprisonment and Tails believing him dead, holding onto hope becomes impossible. Infinite is planning more than just torture for Sonic. He wants to tear apart his mind until he can't tell illusion from reality, or remember if the young fox is his dearest friend or an enemy trying to kill him.
Tails, meanwhile, refuses to accept that Sonic is dead, and will do anything to get him back. But even if he succeeds, nothing will ever be the same. The war in the outside world continues to destroy everything that the gang holds dear, but when the damage is deep within, how can it ever be rebuilt?

And left in that destruction is the heavily damaged form of a once unstoppable Jackal, what do you do with one of the most detested villains in an organization that favors redemption? Gadget had a front row seat in learning the answer.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the battle stands Dr. Eggman, allied with Infinite. But unlike the doctor, the jackal can get bored with watching the world burn all day at times. Luckily, he found himself a brand new toy to play with to pass the free time. Maybe not quite ideal - fur a tad lighter in color and quills more downturned - but similar enough.
