"Excuse me?" Bilbo was thrown, both by being referred by this stranger as his man, and by the ridiculous question. Fighting? Why, he was a respectable gentleman! Not some ruffian who was prone to getting into scraps.
"Revolver? Rifle? What's your weapon of choice?" Thorin probed, his voice was rich and sonorous, but tinged with a bit of amusement that rankled at Bilbo's pride.
"Well, I'm a deft hand at whist, if you must know, but I fail to see why that's relevant." Bilbo replied, with a snippy tone and a mite more confidence than he felt at the moment.

Jane gets separated from her friends during a cave walk in the modern world and accidentally crosses through an ancient hidden passage into Erebor, one year after the Battle of Five Armies.
She is discovered in the old lower tunnels by dwarven guards, mistaken at first for a young man, and brought before King Thorin Oakenshield, who survived the battle along with Fili and Kili and is now rebuilding his kingdom under the Mountain.
At first, Jane is treated as a suspicious stranger. But as strange old seals begin to crack and forgotten roads beneath Erebor start waking again, it becomes clear that the passage she used was not random. Jane may be the only person who can help them understand what has reopened under the Mountain.
While Thorin, his family, and his council work to uncover the truth of the hidden “road below the road,” Jane slowly becomes part of life in Erebor. And in the middle of all the danger, suspicion, and old buried secrets, a slow, intense romance begins to grow between Jane and Thorin.

Stuff has happened, like a lot, a lot. Boromir is in fact alive! My butt got saved by Eomer and his men. Éowyn is a sweetheart. Arwen and the wonder twins and my father were at Helm's Deep, big thanks for the assist! Oh right, Galadriel's gift really was handy. Had to deal with a bomb and everything... So much to do! So tired, far from done and now we all have to pick up our dear hobbits in Isengard.
And for some reason Legolas is being a shit, and I have to deal with that too on top of everything.

Just when everything seemed to calm down. Legolas was alive again, the ring gone and dusted, and I had no worries other than the fact I was about to officially meet my father in law, which by the way is the freaking elven king Thranduil! Yup, that one. I once again got screwed as it would seem the Valar werent quite done hauling my ass all over Middle Earth. Only this time they added freaking timetravel!
So I am about to get involved with a company of dwarves and a hobbit, trying desperately to change fates, somehow survive both a dragon and yet another war, all the while avoiding being seen by anyone who could identify me in the future. And let's just say... I'm not off to a great start...

Hobbiton smelled of cut grass, damp earth, fresh bread, and peace so domestic it affronted him. He had crossed wild lands, slept beneath hostile skies, buried kin, swallowed pride, and borne the memory of fire and ruin in his very bones, and now he stood before a painted door with a brass knob set precisely in the middle.
