    Summary

Never have I ever written an ABO story, until now.

The usual suspects in a different setting but still having family dynamics from hell and so many grievances. Also, everybody is even younger and more confused than the last time. It is still Arda in spirit and custom but geographically it is more like Earthsea.

Like I feared, this turned out to be a somewhat epic endeavor, with a bunch of children craving attention, mysteries, agricultural problems, battles of different kinds, dreams, omens and portents, Dwarrow, fertility rituals, good and evil Valar and me being unexpectedly lenient towards Kings Thingol and Ingwë. And of course there are dragons, too.

There probably should be more sex, and less meetings, but there is a war to be waged and people to be saved, so busy parents have to take what they can get.

So, Prince Fëanáro is returning to the Isle of Tirion from a bout of island hopping....

    Summary

Tolkien constructed the Silmarillion as a mythology and a background for his other works and created languages. It's a beautifully crafted piece of literature, and with complex characters whom the audience cannot help but want to explore. The Lord of the Rings teaches that while there is much darkness in the world, there is still good worth fighting for.

What happens when you fight for that good only to fail? What happens when all of your efforts to save lend themselves to destruction? What happens when a perfect world has been infected with anger and sorrow and imperfection?

Is it a crime to need saving?

In the year 1310, after years of trying to conceive, Findis Aratarinie and Ingwion Laimarindil succeed, and are given a daughter, to unite the line of Ingwe and Finwe, though the latter are decidedly absent - in heart and body. Over the following centuries, that child will earn many names - the Queen of the Dawn, She of Sweetened Words, the Lady of Ash - and yet, in the beginning, before the blood, and the tears, and the loss, she was simply Elvorie Alyariniel, a Princess never expected to inherit, never expected to leave.

This story maps the passage of her life, through hope, despair and strength.

    Summary

“Brother will betray brother to death, and a Father His children; children will rebel against their Father and have him put to oblivion.”

The end of the First Age was meant to mark the triumph of the Host of the West and the final defeat of the Great Enemy. However, tilt the knife’s edge a fraction, shift a single piece on the celestial board, and the world may be remade. Still, Vairë’s weaving allows no alternative, and no other outcome could ever come to pass.

In which, Eärendil, the Star of Hope, falls and the consequences are terrible.

[An alternative Universe with the multiple characters about the War of Wrath ending differently and its outcomes]

    Summary

For this month’s SWG-challenge ‘The Only Thing To Fear’, I tried something a little different- which was to write short ficlets for as many prompts as possible. (Admittedly, I wanted them to be drabbles at first, but I just couldn’t manage).

Some of these turned more into PTSD-stories than phobias, but I think it still fits the challenge.

    Summary

Before the Great Journey, Sauron beheld Helcelótë at Cuiviénen and understood with perfect clarity: she would be his. He beguiled her trust. And so she never reached the Blessed Realm.

For centuries his design held flawless, until the sons of Fëanor came into his carefully ordered world. Oath-bound and unrelenting, Maedhros shattered the careful borders Sauron had drawn around his most prized possession. But Sauron does not like to yield what is his.

    Summary

Ereinion Gil-galad discovers a miracle. Elros (not yet Tar-Minyatur) finds his way.

    --

"You'll have no luck with that one," one of the other healers stopped a moment to advise them both. "He hasn't moved since the men brought him in; likely, his spirit is unmoored."

"Try anyhow?" Ereinion implored Elrond, softly, and he blessed his friend when Elrond did not question these orders, as if he thought it entirely worth his time and power to dote upon this old, near-dead thrall.

    Summary

Perhaps the strangest thing in his grandson’s war camp was Gwindor.

The former thrall of Angband, missing both a pinky and an eye, was the first thing anyone noticed when they approached the young High King. He stood at Gil-Galad’s right hand, the head of the king’s personal guard, a presence as steady as the steel at his hip. There was nothing ceremonial in the way he carried himself, no courtly bow, no polished armor. He looked like a man who had walked through fire and come out the other side knowing exactly how much of him the flames had taken.

    Summary

"In dread’s embrace, your fate entwine,
    With Qalmë-Tári, through shadowed shrine."

In an alternate version of The Silmarillion, it is not Melkor who ventures into the Void, but Nienna, the once-compassionate Lady of Mercy. Driven by an insidious transformation, she plunges into the darkness, emerging as a twisted force of despair and malevolence. Embracing the Void's corrupting influence, Nienna becomes Qalmë-Tári, Mistress of Night, her essence entwined with grief and darkness.

In this bleak world, a dark cult forms around Qalmë-Tári, devoted to spreading her doctrine of despair and mourning. The faithful, led by her most loyal lieutenant, Lótëar (Olórin), the High Priest of Rot, revel in the sorrow they cultivate, reinforcing Nienna's dominion over their lives and souls.

Follow history of Ea and Arda, which would be threaten first by the Lady of Misery and later on by the High Priest of Rot.

What if? - series What if Nienna was evil?

Why had Amarië joined the host of Aman?

Elemmírë had asked, of course. Several times. She got answers of the type, "I was tired of being warm and comfortable at night" and "My mother said I hadn't risked my hröa enough" and "I wanted to be chess champion of Beleriand as well as Valinor." She understood the futility of pressing further. But curiosity still burned at her, and tonight she was going to make one more try.

    Summary

Elurín and Eluréd survive the second kinslaying as birds, actually.

    ~

Two sparrows sat upon an elm branch, sheltered and silent. They watched as a few Golodhrim emerged from the eastern gates of Menegroth, circling and calling their names. They watched when several of them found the packs, hidden as if in haste beneath a stone cairn. One of them left the packs there and went within, and soon after a tall Golodh with hair like sunset came out and stumbled to the ground beside them.

The Golodh seemed to be grieving. He clutched the packs to his chest with one hand, for the other was cut off at the wrist, and called their names; but they held still, very still.

They looked upon him and did not trust him: the Golodh’s garments were still splattered with blood, red as his hair.

The snow began to fall in earnest then, as the day faded, and the Golodh remained there, calling them until his voice was hoarse.

Rúmil did not craft the numerical system in Sarati to chronicle the frequency with which he finds Finwë’s son hiding from the world beneath his desk, but he’s beginning to think he might as well have.

    OR,

An exploration of parenthood in a world where you have to write all the books on the topic yourself, and dodging your own shitty first drafts is harder than you might like it to be.
